Spotted - 10 celebrities with Rolex Milgauss

Recently, our “Spotted” column was all about the most sought-after Rolex watch, and one of the most collectable of all watches currently on the market, a chronograph known as the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. Today, we keep the same brand but we change model, for what’s probably the most underrated of all the Rolex sports watches, the Milgauss – which we spotted recently on the wrist of Timberlake, in its Z-Blue edition. Is it that underrated? Seeing the list of 10 celebrities below with that watch on the wrist, it might be more popular than we thought it was.

The classic black dial and green crystal version of the Rolex Milgauss (Ref. 116400GV)

The Rolex Milgauss was first created in 1954 for those working in environments with strong magnetic fields. The main specificity of this watch, beyond its unusual but signature lightning-shaped seconds hand (which appear on the first generation only, as the second-gen Ref. 1019 drastically changed design), is the presence of a soft iron cage around the movement to protect it from magnetic fields. Absent from the collection for almost 20 years, the watch came back at Baselworld 2007, in the shape that we know today. Often forgotten, being in the shadow of the Submariner, the GMT or even the classic Datejust, the modern Milgauss 116400 remains a very cool timepiece. This is this watch, in its different configurations, that you’ll see below on the wrists of these tasteful celebrities.

Jennifer Aniston

American actress Jennifer Aniston is best known for starring in the TV show Friends, as the character Rachel Green. Aniston has starred in films such as Bruce Almighty, Horrible Bosses and We’re the Millers. Aniston owns a customized Rolex Milgauss with black PVD treatment for both the case and bracelet. An unusual configuration that works well on this model.

  6. Good marketing, good publicity, good sponsoring creates the mindset among people when you ask them: What is the most desirable watch in the world?, then 90% of them will answer “ROLEX”!
It is an excellent watch, but I really wouldn’t buy one in my collection, just because of this.
Breguet, R.Mille, Vacheron, GP, Zenith, JLC, Ulysse, Langhe and so many other fantastic makers makes my heart thick faster, but not Rolex.

  7. Es un reloj que no compraría pero me gusta con su cristal verde le da presencia

  8. @ Roger B

I find it’s best to think of a Rolex as just a part of the collection, a rougher gem not mutually exclusive to those other more refined brands; something that doesn’t need to be coddled as a daily beater, and will hold its value extraordinarily well. I added a Sub to my collection *after* getting Breguet, Vacheron, JLC, and Parmigiani…and it completed it – like there was just a gap there waiting for it. It’s there to be loved in its own, different way.
