Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer

Brellum is a true independent watchmaking company, fully owned by its founder Sebastien Muller. Whoever reaches out to Brellum is in direct contact with Sebastien himself, a 4th generation Swiss watchmaker. Through hard work and dedication he has been able to build the company to what it is today; a manufacturer of relatively affordable, COSC-certified mechanical watches with a down-to-earth philosophy. What started with the Duobox, a sporty, retro-inspired chronograph, was followed by the more classical Wyvern collection. The latest family member is the new Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer.

The inaugural Duobox collection, and all its offsprings since, have been received with quite some praise by enthusiasts, and rightfully so. It is a well-built, fully mechanical watch with nice specifications at a very competitive price point. It mixes retro-vibes with contemporary materials and finishes, and a robust chronograph movement, all priced around 3k euros. Three years ago, Sebastian introduced the Brellum Wyvern 5 Days Chronometer, a more formal style of watch, which came with a proprietary mechanical movement.

The Wyvern 5 Days Chronometer is now joined by the new Wyvern GMT Chronometer. There’s no illusion to what this watch will show you, given the name. The 42mm wide steel case features brushed surfaces with polished edges and hosts a silver, black or blue dial. The multi-level dials all have a sunray brushing with a stepped outer flange featuring a 5-minute scale and markers. The indices are a mix of faceted markers and numerals, all coated with Super LumiNova. A boxed sapphire crystal on top results in a fairly pleasant height of 10.90mm.

The faceted hour and minute hands have a contrasting centre stripe with a Super LumiNova insert. The seconds hand is either polished or blued with a luminous tip. Next to hours, minutes, and seconds, there’s a central GMT hand with a triangular tip, also featuring Super LumiNova. The dial is completed with a date window on the right-hand side.

Inside the Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer, you’ll find the BR-893-GMT, based on the ETA 2893-2. This automatic movement comes with Chronometer certification by the COSC, as all watches by Brellum do. It displays the time, date, and of course a second time zone through the GMT hand. Visible through the caseback, it is neatly finished with perlage, Côtes de Genève and colimaçonnage. On top is a gold-coloured open-worked rotor with the Wyvern logo in black. The movement runs at 28,800 vibrations/hour and boasts 42 hours of power reserve.

The Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer comes on an integrated rubber strap (black or blue) with a contrasting stripe (light blue, yellow, or red). You have a choice between a stainless steel pin buckle or a deployant buckle. There’s also an optional stainless steel bracelet with alternating brushed and polished links. The Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer is priced at EUR 2,110 including taxes and comes with free worldwide shipping.
