Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Black Ice

Founded in 1983 by Gerd R. Lang, Chronoswiss is headquartered in Lucerne and is a brand with a clear speciality. Inspired by yesteryear precision master clocks (that separated time indications for precise reading), the brand presented in 1987 its first wristwatch with a regulator display. Since then, regulators have become a trademark of Chronoswiss. And now, the brand introduces a new take on its modernly designed model, with a bold, tone-on-tone colour scheme, the Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Black Ice.

Presented two years ago, the Open Gear ReSec (for Retrograde Seconds) adds a playful retrograde indication to the regulator display. At 6 o’clock, and replacing the traditional running indicator, the seconds hand travels on a 120° degree arch, for 30 seconds, before swiftly jumping back to zero. The Open Gear construction is characterized by its raised, floating display creating an eye-catching sense of depth. It is a hybrid 42-part construction that also serves as a module plate holding the bridges, screws, wheels and jewels for the regulator and retrograde-second mechanism.

The new Open Gear ReSec Black Ice edition comes with a black-on-black dial, case and strap combination released in a limited edition of 50 watches. The dial has a black sparkly grained finish. The use of luminescent material for the hands and indices allows for enhanced readability in all conditions, specifically with markers made of luminescent blocks. The individual limited-edition number of the watch is transferred at 3 o’clock.

The signature cylinder case is made of black DLC-coated stainless steel. It measures 44mm in diameter and features the brand’s signature onion crown, straight lugs and side knurling. The water resistance is rated 100m, comfortable for such a watch.

This edition of the Chronoswiss ReSec, like all previous models, is powered by the Calibre C. 301, an extensively modified ETA 2895. The regulator and retrograde seconds module has been entirely developed by Chronoswiss and it is manufactured in-house. The power reserve of this 4Hz automatic movement is of 42 hours when fully wound. The hacking second allows for precise time setting. Turning the watch over, the exhibition case back allows discovering its decoration featuring Geneva stripes, perlage and a black-coated skeletonized rotor.

The Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Black Ice is presented in a black neoprene strap (hand-stitched on a leather base). It is secured to the wrist by a folding buckle. The price is set at CHF 9,900 or EUR 10,000. For more information and online orders, please visit www.chronoswiss.com.
