A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar

Last week we showed you the Grand Complication that A. Lange & Söhne introduced earlier this year (click here). It was Lange & Söhne’s first ‘grand complication’ but it was the second watch from this Saxon watch brand with a striking complication. The first timepiece from Lange that features a striking mechanism was the Zeitwerk Striking Time. The magnificent Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, that was introduced last year, also has something in common with the Zeitwerk, which is synthesized in the word ‘Handwerkskunst‘.

During the Watches & Wonders fair that starts today, Wednesday September 25th, in Honk Kong, Lange & Söhne introduce the new Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst. ‘Handwerkskunst’ probably best translates as handwork art or the art of craftsmanship. The solid white gold dial is decorated with a rare combination of tremblage and relief engraving techniques. For the first time in a Lange timepiece, the numerals of the large date display are hand-painted. And they are hand-painted in blue!

Of course we already cheered about the beauty and complexity of the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar. Especially the fact that all perpetual calendar indications advance instantaneously! Or the layout of the dial, where no indication overlaps another, whether it are all different the perpetual calendar displays or the time, the day & night indication or moon phase. All indications are immediately legible.

The ‘Handwerkskunst’ also applies to the decorations of the manufacture calibre L082.1. The relief-engraved tourbillon and intermediate-wheel cocks frame the tourbillon ensemble with the patented stop-seconds feature. The same free-hand engraving technique is used to decorate the large 21-carat gold central rotor with a platinum mass. Each of the three train bridges is embellished with solarisation. Four screwed gold chatons and a diamond end-stone bearing for the tourbillion are the grand finale of Lange’s “Handwerkskunst” extravaganza.

The platinum case, measuring 41.9-millimeter, features the recognizable elegant case with brushed mid-case and polished bezel. The special Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst is a limited edition of just 15 numbered pieces.  This limited edition will be available exclusively through the eleven international A. Lange & Söhne Boutiques.
