Gazing upon the new limited edition by Chronoswiss, created to be launched during the Dubai Watch Week, we can almost hear Axl Rose belting out “Welcome to the Jungle” in his signature high-pitched scream in the background. Based upon the existing Open Gear ReSec model, Chronoswiss has put a very special looking dial in this limited run of watches. This is the Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Jungle.

Chronoswiss is well-known for its devotion to the quite classical regulator display of time. A regulator watch puts the emphasis on the minutes and positions it in the centre of the dial. This is accompanied by an hour display, usually in the top half of the dial and a seconds display in the bottom half. The purpose of such a display dates back to the use of master clocks in a workshop or an observatory, designed for precision time reading.

In the past couple of years, Chronoswiss has created a multitude of colourful limited editions revolving around the regulator display. We’ve seen a chocolate coloured case with a red dial, a fully blacked-out version, and the more classical silver-and-blue Lucerne Edition. Using the Open gear ReSec as a starting point, the latest “Jungle” variant shifts colour towards the green spectrum.

As with previous iterations of the Open Gear ReSec, this comes with a fairly large 44mm wide and 13.35mm thick stainless steel case. In typical Chronoswiss style, it has a knurled bezel, an onion-shaped crown, and lugs with the patented Autobloc system for the strap. The finishing alternates between brushed and polished surfaces and the dial is topped with a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.

The dial for the Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Jungle is decorated with a hand-applied moiré guilloché pattern, emanating from the centre of the dial. It’s then given a special CVD coating, resulting in a pallet of colours that shift under the light. It almost gives you the sense you’re looking upwards through a dense palm-leaf canopy in the jungle. The remainder of the components is done in a galvanic black, with various luminous indices spread around the dial.

Being a regulator watch at heart, time is split into separate indications. On top, we have a Trigono shaped hour hand revolving over a funnel-like subdial. In the middle, there’s another Trigono-shaped hand for the minutes, extending to the outer minute track. Finally, at the bottom half of the dial, is a 30-second retrograde display. The entire dial is made of an impressive total of 42 components.

The Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Jungle is powered by the Calibre C.301, which is based on the ETA 2895. This automatic base movement is topped with an in-house module for the regulator and retrograde indications. The movement has 33 jewels and runs at a frequency of 28,800vph. A skeletonized green CVD coated rotor winds the barrel, up to 42 hours of power reserve. It is covered by a screwed caseback with sapphire crystal.

The Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Jungle limited edition is presented as a limited edition of 50 pieces only and worn on a handsewn black Cordura strap with a steel pin buckle. The price is set at CHF 9,700 or EUR 9,800.
