Last week, during the 2021 edition of the Geneva Watch Days, we enjoy the ability to visit brands and discovering their latest creation, in the metal (something that has been unfortunately rare in the past 2 years). Since we were able to touch and feel these new watches, we also took the time to talk with the teams behind their creation and we’ve already published multiple videos on MONOCHROME. And to continue with our live report of the GWD, we visited Ulysse Nardin, the specialist of the Marine Chronometers. And what’s better than a complete capsule collection of Marine Torpilleur watches to celebrate this jubilee…? We have Jean-Christophe Sabatier, Chief Product Officer at Ulysse Nardin, giving us all the details about these watches that couldn’t be more UN.

Ulysse Nardin founded his eponymous brand in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland. And even though having a large portfolio of high-end watches, the brand is mostly revered for its precision marine chronometers. Over its entire history, the watchmaker has produced over 10,000 of these marine chronometers, delivered to most admiralties around the world, in order to calculate longitudes when sailing across the oceans. The brand has won many prizes and competitions and has produced these instruments, including clocks and pocket watches, for more than one century. And if today there’s no need for such mechanical instruments on board ships, the brand has long capitalized on this background with its successful Marine collection.

This year, Ulysse Nardin is presenting a new capsule collection that celebrates the brand’s 175th anniversary, a collection named Torpilleur, in reference to the “torpedo” pocket watches developed for smaller ships in the early 20th century. The new collection comprises 7 watches, all in limited editions, which are perfectly in line with what you’d expect from a Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer. Roman numerals, cathedral hands, fluted bezels, displays that are inspired by antique clocks…

You can discover this new collection in our introducing article, as well as our favourite model, the new Marine Torpilleur Moonphase in a dedicated article here. And of course, make sure to check the video, which tells you all about this new collection. For more details, please visit Ulysse-Nardin.com.
