recap MONOCHROME Best videos 2019

Our videos, which we’d prefer to call “in-depth movies”, are something we’re very proud of, here at MONOCHROME. We take a lot of time and energy to produce them since we believe that seeing a watch or a concept in video and not in photo dramatically helps to understand the beauty that is hidden in these timekeeping objects. This year, 2019, we’ve produced over 60 videos, which can be seen on our YouTube channel. But as we’re saying goodbye to 2019, here’s a recap of our most viewed movies of the year.

Understanding the CODE 11:59 by Audemars Piguet

We start with THE most controversial collection of the year, if not of the decade… The Code 11:59 by Audemars Piguet, entirely reviewed here, which you can see in the movie below. Certainly not the most loved watch of the brand, it, however, deserves to be seen in the metal to be fully appreciated, since there are multiple details to discover.

Our entire SIHH 2019 coverage (12 videos)

Since the SIHH – or now Watches & Wonders – used to be the first horological event of the year, we’ve always taken great care to give you a truly in-depth coverage, which includes a series of videos and interviews to discover the new collections.

The Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT

Since this watch is the world’s thinnest chronograph – and it’s automatic and it features a GMT function – we had to understand everything behind this technical achievement. Once again, truth be told, the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT is one of the highlights of 2019.

Inside Bovet’s Manufacture with Pascal Raffy

Bovet, winner of the GPHG 2018, is one of the most fascinating manufactures around. We took the opportunity With the launch of the brand’s newest watch, the Recital 26 Brainstorm Chapter One, we took the opportunity of going to Fleurier to visit this atelier where some of Switzerland’s finest watches are crafted.

TAG Heuer Monaco 50th Anniversary

Celebrating 50 years of one of the most iconic watches of the second half of the 20th century, the Heuer Monaco, and one of the most important movements ever created, the Calibre 11,TAG Heuer has had a bumper crop year releasing several limited-edition watches. We travelled to Monte Carlo and La Chaux-de-Fonds to understand everything there is to know about this cult watch.

Introducing A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus

Another controversial watch in 2019 was the  A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus, a new contender in the luxury sports watch category… and one from a brand we didn’t expect in this segment. Still, Lange has done it and, whether you like it or not (that’s entirely up to you), the execution and the concept are rather impressive. The Odysseus is fully explained by Anthony de Haas, A. Lange & Söhne’s director of product development.

Breguet, The Unmistakable Signs – What makes a Breguet watch unique?

An important question… answered by Emmanuel Breguet himself, in one of our most elegant movies. From the guilloché dial to the Breguet numerals, from the secret signature to the blued hands, discover all the details that make a Breguet unique.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin

The winner of the GPHG 2019, our founder’s favourite watch of the year, the thinnest perpetual calendar watch ever created (which can be worn on a daily basis), a design inspired by the most iconic luxury sports watch on the market, and a movement of incredible thinness and complexity: the Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is a superlative watch.

Understanding the Concept behind the Armin Strom Resonance

Many of you will be familiar with the concept of resonance and the handful of watches that have been created using this intriguing physical concept… But if there’s one watch to remember, it is the Armin Strom Resonance, probably the most advanced timepiece relying on resonance. And it is fully explained here.

BONUS – Driving the New 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Convertible

You might have noticed, this year we’ve introduced two new columns. One is “The Vintage Corner”, which just started a week ago. The second is “The Petrolhead Corner”, a series of articles dedicated to another passion of MONOCHROME’s team members (at least, some of them…): cars and motorsport. And we couldn’t keep our test drive of the new Porsche 992 4S all to ourselves… So we made a short video review of it.

Thank you again for being faithful to MONOCHROME in 2019. Happy New Year and see you in 2020.
