Pre-Baselworld 2017 – Anonimo goes back to its roots to better reinvent itself. To start the celebration of its 20^th anniversary this year, the brand reissues the Vintage model of its Militare line: same features, same aesthetics enhanced with a hint of modernity and that unique Italian je-ne-sais-quoi…

Anonimo was founded in 1997 in Florence after the Vendome Luxury Group, now Richemont, bought Panerai. As Panerai moved to Switzerland, some of its (ex)employees, among whom the military engineer Dino Zei, joined Anonimo to create a collection of sturdy watches, inspired by distinctive Italian design, with a focus on dive watches. The idea of Anonimo’s founders, in particular Federico Massacesi, was that the product, with distinctive functional design, should always come before the brand itself. For this reason, the brand didn’t appear on the dial for a long time. The choice of the name “Anonimo”, the Italian word for “anonymous”, was directly derived from this concept. The brand is now headquartered in Switzerland on the shore of the Geneva lake, combining Swiss precision with rugged Italian sport chic.

The robust 43.4mm steel case keeps the powerful lines of the collection and features a notched bezel. Like the original Militare, it has its crown nested in between the lugs to prevent unexpected mishandling. However, it has been moved at 12 instead of the previous 6 o’clock position.

The clean, eggshell white dial features unusual marking with the indication of 12 / 04 / 08 hours and the indication of the 24h reading in red small print for 15 / 18 / 21 /24.

The Anonimo Militare Vintage is powered by the Sellita SW260-1, a movement visible through the transparent caseback. An equivalent to the ETA2824 caliber, this reliable work horse is a small-seconds version of the SW200 (with the small seconds counter usually at 6 – but here of course moved at 3, given the position of the crown at 12).

An Italian brown calf leather strap with off-white stitching sets the final touch. It is closed with a steel pin buckle. it will be priced at CHF 2,590. www.anonimo.com.
