Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Classique Phases de Lune in Pink Gold
For initiates the Atmos clock has no secrets, however for the rest of you the Atmos might seem like a perpetual motion machine. It seems to live on air and actually that’s exactly what is the case (no worries, we’ll explain it.) This year at the SIHH Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced a new pink gold version of the Atmos Classique Phases de Lune and it looks stunning.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos, the clock that lives on air, was invented in 1928. The most remarkable feature about the Atmos is that it does not need a battery or to be wound; it literally lives on air. Its secret lies in the hermetically sealed capsule that transforms even the smallest variations in ambient temperature into mechanical energy. Each time the temperature rises or falls by a single degree centigrade, the mechanism stores enough energy for 48 hours. The huge balance oscilates extremely slow (one oscillation every minute) and is suspended from an incredibly fine Elinvar wire.
Contrary to most wrist watches, the gears in the Atmos function without lubricants. That’s done to limit energy waste and reduce wear, because the friction on the gearwheels caused by lubricants would be enough to bring the mechanism to a standstill!
Did you know that…
The Atmos uses just 240th of the energy required by an ordinary wristwatch. It would take 60 million Atmos clocks to equal the energy consumption of a single 15-watt electric light bulb.
The new Atmos comes in a pink gilt cabinet, making it the third variation of a model that also comes with a yellow gilt or rhodiumed cabinet. The months are indicated on an openwork disc at the centre of the dial. Surrounding the openwork month disc is the main dial for hours and minutes and nested towards the 6 o’clock position is a sub dial with the most precise moon-phase display in the history of horology, which is only has to be adjusted 1 days per 3,821 years.
Each Atmos has to undergo weeks of trials and adjustments before it is allowed to leave the workshops. The new Atmos Classique Phases de Lune in pink gold, or actually pink gilt, comes at a retail price of € 7.650 Euros.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am interested in the Atmos Classique Phases de Lune Ref. 5112202. How much is the clock, if you send it to me to Germany including taxes?
Thank you for your answer in advance and stay
Sincerely
Martin Halbach * Remscheid / Germany
@Martin, as you’ve seen, we are a watch magazine for news and review, not a retailer.
You should contact your local Jaeger-LeCoultre shop – you can find them here https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/ww/en/boutiques.html
