Baselworld 2017 – Manufacture Royale ADN, Bold & Architectural
Manufacture Royale goes back to its roots to reinvent itself whilst presenting its 9th caliber. Regulated by a flying tourbillon, the MR09 caliber lets users track two time-zones at once, right down to the minute – the local time uses an original jump-hour display. Inspired by the Androgyne, the first model unveiled following the revival of the brand a few years ago, the ‘ADN’ (the French Acronym for DNA) case houses a spectacular skeleton movement, allowing for a detailed view of its inner workings and three-dimensional architecture.
Manufacture Royale was reborn in 2010 with the goal of reviving the pioneering spirit first imbued in the original ‘Manufacture Royale des Montres de Ferney’ in 1770, by its founder, Voltaire. This creative spirit and freedom of thought has led to the launch of a bold collection of watches, among them the Androgyne.
‘Dare to be different’
The Manufacture Royale ADN is a further reinterpretation of this heritage, resulting in the creation of a spectacular skeleton movement featuring two time zones. The 46mm case has been redesigned with softer lines, enhancing its steampunk look with a more modern flair. The mobile lugs pivot between two brancards, which hug the sides of the case. The bezel is held in place by 12 screws. This intricate construction is made up of no fewer than 67 components, and allows for a variety of material and color combinations.
Staying true to the brand’s philosophy, the Manufacture Royale ADN incorporates both architectural and technical expertise. The impressive three-dimensional skeleton work reveals the fine finishes of the hand wound movement (with Rhodium or NAC finish depending on the version). The transparent case back is secured with 4 screws and gives a clear view of the MR09 caliber with its jump-hour mechanism. A nice touch, the sapphire back is tinted in red for the DLC-steel version.
The caliber MR09 is regulated by a flying Tourbillon mounted on ceramic ball bearings. It runs at 21’600 vibrations per hour for a healthy power reserve of 80 hours. Its mechanism enables to-the-minute adjustment of its two time zones. A smart feature, the second time zone is fully independent, enabling it to display the time of every area in the world, regardless of the time difference (including the countries or places that have adopted non-standard time zones, usually a 30 minute off-set).
The local time is shown at 12 with a smart jump-hour system. A disc jumps to reveal the digits of the corresponding hour. The reading of time therefore, is both intuitive and original. The home time is off-centered at 4 o’clock and uses a standard dial with hours and minutes hands. Both time zones can be set via the crown and there are no fussy correctors.
The Manufacture Royale AND is available in steel, DLC-steel and forged carbon or pink gold and forged carbon. It is worn on a soft rubber strap (black or red) with folding buckle. For more information, visit www.manufacture-royale.com.
