Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Red Bronze

While Bell & Ross has gained most of its popularity thanks to its pilot’s and military watches, the brand also has a long tradition of diver’s instruments, such as the impressive Hydromax 11,000m or the BR 02 collection. Those two are long gone now but the brand has managed a few years ago to incorporate diving elements within its iconic square design, resulting in the BR 03-92 Diver. First presented in steel, Bell & Ross quickly released it in bronze, a material that perfectly matched the overall spirit of this watch. Today, a new colour is available, with the new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Red Bronze.

Bronze is a material that is immediately in-keeping with the marine spirit. Once used to make primitive diving equipment, it has widely been adopted by the watch industry due to its cool colour and, mostly, its capacity to gain patina over time, making these watches unique to the wearer and quite playful. First introduced in 2018 with a black dial, the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Bronze will then present a green edition in 2019 and a blue version in 2020. This year, it is time for a fully red model to join the range.

With this new limited edition, Bell & Ross retains the element that made this watch quite successful. As such, the 42mm x 42mm square case, with its round unidirectional bezel and its 4 functional screws, has been kept identical. It is still pleasantly finished, with satin-brushed surfaces highlighted by polished bevels all around. The case is made of CuSn8 Bronze, an alloy combining 92% Copper and 8% Tin that has a pink-golden colour when new. One advantage of this specific alloy, it is relatively stable will only gain marginal patina, keeping the structure of the watch intact.

Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Red Bronze

The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Red Bronze is a true diver’s watch, fully equipped and ISO 6425 certified. It is water-resistant to 300m, it features a rubber-coated screw-down crown protected by guards, and an indispensable unidirectional bezel with 60-minute scale. The dial offers great contrast and large amount of luminescent material. For hypodermic reasons, the tick screwed caseback is made of stainless steel and engraved with a deep-sea diver’s helmet.

The main difference this year for this model is the addition of an unusual but quite attractive colour. Indeed, the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Red Bronze – as you’ve guessed – plays on 3 tones of red. The dial is red lacquered, the bezel is made of red anodized aluminium and the leather strap comes in a reddish-brown tone. This colour plays nicely with the hues of the bronze case. If you want to use your watch as a diving instrument, an additional black rubber strap is also included.

For the rest, no major evolutions are to be noted. The BR 03-92 Diver Red Bronze is still powered by the calibre BR-CAL.302, based on an automatic Sellita ébauche.
