The Manero Peripheral certainly represents Carl F. Bucherer at its best. Not the most technical watch in the collection (the Tourbillon Double Peripheral holds the title) yet probably the most balanced one. Elegant, sophisticated, technically interesting and well-priced, it is a watch we’ve been regularly praising on MONOCHROME. Aware of the demand for larger watches in certain regions (the US market first, and since Bucherer acquired Tourneau, new opportunities opened to Carl F. Bucherer in this market), the brand introduces a larger version of its Manero Peripheral, now with a 43mm case.
If they remain a rare breed, peripheral rotors are very much in vogue today. This smart technical solution offers an unhindered view of the movement together with the comfort and practicality of automatic winding. It also allows for extra-flat designs – as the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Automatic 910P or the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic attest. The concept is not exactly new but, giving credit where credit is due, Carl F. Bucherer was the first brand to bring it to serial production in the 2000s with the innovative CFB A1000 calibre.
The 3-hand Manero Peripheral has been in the Carl F. Bucherer collection since 2016 and the brand now expands its offer with a larger model. At 43.1mm in diameter, the new version is 2.5mm larger and it will be a better fit if you have a bigger wrist – or simply if you just feel you need a bigger watch.
This larger version of the Carl F. Bucherer Manero Peripheral ticks with the same calibre CFB A2050 as the 40.6mm model. Technically and aesthetically unique, this movement is equipped with a peripheral winding mass, which rotates thanks to three small DLC-coated rollers with ceramic ball bearings. Entirely designed and manufactured in-house, it is part of the A2000 family, an evolution of the A1000 series, introduced in 2016. The linear and angular design of the bridges is characteristic of the brand’s movements. It is finished with Geneva stripes and snailing on the barrel drum cover. Its precision is COSC-certified.
Available in porcelain white or matte black, the elegant dial is elaborately finished with facetted hour markers paired with dauphine-style hands. At 6 o’clock, the small seconds sub-dial is slightly recessed. The date is shown at 3 o’clock through a framed window.
The Carl F. Bucherer Manero Peripheral 43mm is available in steel or in pink gold. It comes with an alligator strap or a steel bracelet. Price is set at CHF 6,500 for the steel version on a leather strap, at CHF 6,900 for the steel version on a steel bracelet and at CHF 16,800 for the gold version on a leather bracelet. Enter into the land of small pizza watches at your own risk. History may not remember you well and your brands reputation may become seen as a version of the emperors new clothes. For me, this is a lovely, though non descript watch that is not improved with bigger size.
