Corum Unveils Its Golden Bridge In Partnership With Musician Joachim Horsley

With Baselworld 2018 just around the corner, brands are pre-releasing selected models to whet our appetites. Among them is Corum, with a limited edition of its Golden Bridge model produced in partnership with Joachim Horsley, composer, arranger, orchestrator and pianist.

Shaped movements are rare birds. The simple reason is that it is more practical to build multi-purpose, round movements that can be easily adapted to all kinds of watches.

In 1977, Vincent Calabrese undertook a project to create a technical and functional movement that would become a design element in its own right. Bringing the movement of the Golden Bridge to life, he designed an innovative in-line baguette movement, with its inner workings on full display, held in place by the golden bridge that gives its name to this concept.

Numerous iterations of this striking, powerful design have been produced over the years. The latest execution is a limited edition released in partnership with Joachim Horsley, the musician, composer and orchestrator, known in particular for performing Beethoven’s 7^th symphony in a Cuban Rumba style.

The limited edition is based on the Golden Bridge Rectangle, an Art Deco-inspired variation of the signature Corum model presented in 2017 and designed by Dino Modolo. Playing on symmetry, transparency and volume, the iconic in-line movement is framed by a silver micro-structure with a black finish. The baton-style hands are faceted and diamond-polished. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the CO113 movement can store up to 40 hours of power reserve, despite its incredible slenderness.

The well-proportioned 29.5 mm x 42.2 mm case features short lugs, and its crown is located at 6 o’clock. The sapphire caseback has an extract from the score of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony metalized on its surface, which is a nice touch. Corum offers clients the possibility of customizing their watch by having their personal design transferred to the sapphire crystal.

The Corum Golden Bridge Joachim Horsley is worn on a black alligator strap secured with a gold folding buckle. Its retail price is CHF 49,700.

It is released as a unique piece in white gold and was presented to the artist on the occasion of his first Parisian concert at Les Folies Bergères. Corum also created a spectacular presentation case with a miniature piano and a music box manufactured with Reuge. It can play three melodies arranged by Joachim Horsley: compositions by Bach, Mahler and Beethoven reinterpreted as rumbas or with Cuban-inspired beats.
