The Fratello x Nomos Zürich Weltzeit “The Hague” Edition

Our friends from Fratello Watches are at it again, with another very interesting collaboration. This time Fratello has teamed up with independent German watchmaker Nomos and created a limited edition of one of the brand’s most original and sought-after models, the Zürich Weltzeit. Like other limited edition collaborative projects, the watches tend to sell out quickly. The Fratello x Nomos Zürich Weltzeit “The Hague” Edition will be available from the 30th of September, 6 AM Europe time. 

Fratello Watches, founded and run by Robert-Jan Broer, has its headquarters in The Hague, even though it is an international operation. For its fourth collaborative project, following Frederique Constant, Oris, and Czapek, the focus turns to Glashütte, Germany. Selecting the Nomos Zürich Weltzeit for this project, a canvas for several notable and limited editions in the past, the watch comes with a unique look and a small dash of Dutch pride.

The Fratello x Nomos Zürich Weltzeit “The Hague” Edition has a distinct black-and-white “Panda” dial. The outer minute ring and the small seconds sub-dial are black, while the rest of the dial is a contrasting creamy white. A rotatable city ring on the outside, with a secondary hour disc partly visible at 3 o’clock, provide an easy-to-read display. The city ring aligns with the pointer at noon, and the hour disc with a pointer at 4 o’clock.

Usually, you would find our nation’s capital, Amsterdam, on such a disc, but Fratello honours its home city of The Hague in the Netherlands instead. A second arrow, used to indicate home time, is finished in vibrant orange as a nod to Fratello’s Dutch origins. A simple yet effective black outline of a home is used to distinguish home time from local time.

The case remains unaltered and measures 39.9mm across and 10.9mm in height. The case is fully polished, with a slim crown on the right and a neighbouring pusher at 2 o’clock to adjust the city ring counter-clockwise. The hour hand jumps simultaneously forward one hour. One thing to take into account with this watch is the relatively long lugs, giving it a 49mm lug-to-lug distance, meaning it wears a bit larger than the dimensions initially might suggest.

On the back of the Fratello x Nomos Zürich Weltzeit “The Hague” Edition, a sapphire crystal reveals the Nomos Calibre DUW 5201, an automatic in-house developed movement. The finishing of the movement is quite pleasant, fairly visible due to the openworked rotor. It runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and offers 42 hours of power reserve. It has a stop-seconds mechanism and displays a second time zone with a 24-hour disc next to the local time through the central hour and minute hand.

Only 25 pieces will be made, offered exclusively through Fratello Watches. Each one will come with a black cordovan leather strap with a steel pin buckle. The price is EUR 4,620, and the sale starts on the 30th September, 6 AM Europe time.
