Friday Find – Speake-Marin Thalassa
This Friday find is a Speake-Marin MARIN2 – Thalassa – that is only a few months old. Made by independent watchmaker Peter Speake-Marin and limited to only 30 pieces in 18 carat white gold.
A few weeks ago I wrote about the Speake-Marin Original Piccadilly collection with enamel dial that is powered by caliber FW2012, a hybrid movement based on an ETA 2834. The MARIN2 Thalassa is the first model that is powered by Speake-Marin’s new hand-wound movement, caliber SM2m.
The seller posted his MARIN2 Thalassa for sale at the PuristS Pro collectors market and it’s only a few months old. The case is made of 18k white gold and measures 42mm x 12mm. Both sapphire crystals on the front and back side of the MARIN2 are anti-reflective treated. Due to the hand-wound movement, the MARIN2 Thalassa is only 12mm tick and goes well with shirts and suits. Although its blue dial will also match perfectly with jeans. This MARIN2 Thalassa has custom made hands with white super luminova, in stead of the normal SL that has a greenish hue.
Peter Speake-Marin designed the movement with maximum reliability and longevity in mind, so all parts, right down to the jewels and screws, are over-enginered. Another thing that characterizes Speake-Marin’s new movements, is the focus on ease of servicing and assembling.
