Girard-Perregaux introduce the Chrono Hawk Hollywoodland
End of last year Girard-Perregaux introduced a newly revamped sports collection, the Hawk collection. There was a new version of the already very well-known Sea Hawk (that we reviewed a while ago) and an entirely new sports chronograph called Chrono Hawk. In September Girard-Perregaux participated in the Only Watch auction with a unique version of the Chrono Hawk (see here) and now they introduce two special editions of the chrono, called Chrono Hawk Hollywoodland.
The combination of the black ceramic case and the pink gold bezel looks very nice, a sporty yet chic combination. And not to forget, the ceramic case will reduce the weight considerably, compared to the usual stainless steel case. So besides the more stealthy looks it wears much more comfortable because it is lighter. The Chrono Hawk Hollywoodland comes in two flavors, one with a silver/white dial and one with an anthracite/black dial.
The Chrono Hawk Hollywoodland highlights Girard-Perregaux’s commitment to the motion picture. Last year, 2012, they became the “Exclusive Timekeeper” and a Founding Supporter of the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, that will be build in Los Angeles.
Details are numerous on the Chrono Hawk and the dial has an immense depth to it. That’s partially due to the actual depth between the crystal and the dial and partially due to the relief of the dial that reminds of the shape of GP’s famous tourbillon bridge (see here), the raised sub dial track and the applied hour markers that only emphasize or even enhance the depth. A very a tasty sight that will make you look over and over again.
The Chrono Hawk Hollywoodland measures, like its siblings, 44 mm in diameter and is water resistant to a depth of 100 meters. The sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating and the case back also features a sapphire crystal that allows a view on the in-house movement. Inside ticks the reliable self-winding movement, caliber GP 3300 with a chronograph module on top. Combined (base movement GP 3300 and chrono module) it is named GP03300-0073, and it ticks at a pace of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and does that for at least 46 hours, without rewinding.
The strap is like the one on the new Traveller WW.TC that we reviewed the other day, and features a rubber base that is covered with black alligator leather. More information can be found on the Girard-Perregaux website.
