Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk MoM – Mission of Mermaids
On Wednesday, September 25th Girard-Perregaux and the Rockefellers will join forces with Nile Rodgers (founder and lead guitar player of Chic) for the “Changing Watch” event supporting We Are Family Foundation. Girard-Perregaux introduces two special editions for the occasion; a Sea Hawk and a Lady Chrono, dubbed ‘Mission of Mermaids’ (MoM). And these are no limited editions!
Susan Rockefeller co-designed both timepieces and besides this she’s active as a documentary filmmaker, author, jewelry designer and avid conservationist, who is deeply committed to nurturing our planet. Susan is a board member and chairs the Ocean Council for Oceana, is a member of the global Leadership Council for Natural Resources Defense Council and serves on the program committee for the Stone Barns Center for Sustainable Agriculture.
That sounds like an impressive list of conservationist activities, while her husband, well, he’s of course the famous billionaire. Having just seens yet another alarming documentary about our oceans, I think it’s great to see the special attention the Rockefellers and Girard-Perregaux are giving to this great cause.
“Girard-Perregaux’s timepieces remind us of how precious time is, and, their support is a great reassurance to us”, said susan rockefeller. “We have very limited time to save our oceans. My hope is that Mission of Mermaids will inspire people to reflect on the importance of preserving our environment.”
This special Sea Hawk MoM features a green rehaut and several of the hands are executed in green. A mermaid is printed in the off center small seconds sub dial, as an extra reminder of the Mission of Mermaids. And if that isn’t enough, the logo is also printed in green on the case back.
Engraved in the case back are the words “Protect what is precious”. For the rest, the Sea Hawk MoM is a typical Sea Hawk, like we showed you earlier this year when the new Sea Hawk was introduced (click here for all specifications).
The stainless steel case measures a hefty 44 mm in diameter, making this a very masculine and robust sports watch. Personally I really like the green elements on the dial and it would be my choice of preference.
Like any full-fledged dive watch the Sea Hawk features a uni-directional rotating bezel (to keep track of your diving time) and a helium escape valve. Not that most people would need that He valve, but somehow all of us (watch collectors and connoisseurs) got used to dive watches with such a valve and now it seems almost impossible to introduce a new dive watch without it. Maybe we won’t use it, but the Sea Hawk is qualified to go down to 1,000 meters, meaning it is also qualified for professional divers who go down in a diving bell with saturated air (including helium).
Inside ticks Girard-Perregaux’s in-house movement, caliber GP3300. This self-winding movement has a power reserve of 46 hours and ticks the time away at a pace of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations/hour).
While the regular Sea Hawk costs € 9.900 Euro, this special edition Mission for Mermaids comes for a retail price of € 10.800 Euro. Part of the proceeds of every sold Sea Hawk MoM (and also of the Lady Chrono MoM) will go to Nile Rodger’s ‘We Are Family Foundation’!
