Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk Pro 1000M

Girard-Perregaux released a new version of the Sea Hawk Pro 1000M and I must say it looks mighty fine. A new interpretation of the classic Girard-Perregaux dive watch.

Since my passion for watches began, now more than 10 years ago, dive watch have always had my special interest. And so has the Girard-Perragux Sea Hawk. The name ‘Sea Hawk’ has been used since the creation of this collection in the 1940s to designate especially water-resistant models. Since the 1960s and 1970s, the Sea Hawk line has become a diving watch range. The current design was first created in 2002. There have been two series with different depth ratings, one is water resistant to 1,000 meters and one up to 3,000 meters.

The new Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk Pro 1,000M has a typical orange minute hand that can be found on more dive watches and is sometimes referred to a plonguer style hand. Luminiscent material (super luminova?) is applied on the hands, the 5-minute markers and on a small round dot in the divers bezel. The hour and minute hand, the power reserve indicator and the small second hand stand out clearly on the matt black dial.

When the current design of the Sea Hawk was launched in 2002, its 44 mm in diameter was considered among the larger watches. Now-a-days it may be considered a normal sized dive watch. The difference between the 1,000M and the 3,000M version is the addition of a small second hand, which is positioned between 10 and 11 o’clock, in line with the crown and middle of the dial.

Although I’ve admired the Sea Hawk Pro 1,000M and considered it as one of my favorite dive watches, I have never had tried one on my wrist. But that is about to change. In the next month I’ll review the Sea Hawk 1,000M and hope to make some nice photos that I can share with you.

The Sea Hawk Pro 1,000M is available with a rubber strap featuring a folding safety clasp. Its extension system allows the strap to be easily adjusted in order to compensate for differences in temperature or to enable the watch to be worn over a drysuit.
