Glashütte-Original has been revamping the Senator collection in a very successful way. The new models have a certain timeless beauty over them, classic. This year they also introduce new variations on the Seventies Panorama Date. No new case, no new dial design, nor any new complications, yet an entirely different look by adding the choice for an alligator leather strap or a rubber strap, instead of the steel bracelet. We love it!
The Seventies Panorama Date measures a nice 40 x 40 mm and is 11.5 mm thick, making it not the thinnest watch, but definitely not too thick either. It’s got a certain robustness while still remaining elegant. The new straps somehow perfectly underline the 1970’s style and even vaguely remind us of other iconic watches from that era. GO offers an alligator leather strap in black, grey or dark blue (depending on the choice of dial color) and a rubber strap with square patterns and a folding clasp. While the leather strap makes the Seventies Panorama Date more dressy, the rubber strap adds a sporty feeling.
The Seventies Panorama Date is equipped with a strong engine, caliber 39-47. This is a variation on the caliber 39 base movement, a Glashütte-Original in-house developed and manufactured movement. It has proven its strength and robustness over the years and as we’ve come to expect from this high-end German watch brand, the movement is beautifully finished.
This movement offers 40 hours of autonomy, when fully wound, and ticks the time away at 4 Hz (or 28,800 vph). Typical for movements produced in the Glashütte area, caliber 39-47 also features a three-quarter plate, finished with Glashütte ribbing (variation on the better known Côte de Genève or Geneva stripes) with beveled edges, and a swan-neck fine adjustment regulator.
The GO Seventies has a retail price between € 8.100 Euro (leather and rubber strap) and € 8.950 Euro (steel bracelet). Sounds like a great deal, for such a unique and elegant watch with a beautiful in-house movement.
