Great read for the holidays

My friend and fellow blogger Robert-Jan lent me some of his books about watches. He is very passionate about Omega and i will do a post about these books later, especially because they come in handy with the upcoming Antiquorum Auction in New York, where a lot of very special vintage Omega watches will be auctioned.

Some of these books are perfect ‘coffee table’ books but on a lazy sunday afternoon they are an excellent read. Besides these books there are also the reference books. One of my personal favorites is ‘Vintage Rolex Sports Watches’ written by Skeet & Urul. I don’t look at it as the ‘coffee table’ book, but this book has become a reference bible for everything i want to know about Rolex sportswatches.

Another absolute bible on Rolex watches and assoccoires (boxes, hangtags, you name it) is of course ‘Rolex Wristwatches: an unauthorized history’ written by James M. Dowling.

The reference books are very good for really getting to know more about a brand, Rolex in this case. They have a lot of detailed information that i personally don’t find the best ‘read’, but comes in handy when you’re really looking for something. One other book that i’d like to get every year is the ‘Armband Uhren Katalog’. This book isn’t the best read either, but it is excellent for the coffeetable. It is a very complete overview of all new watches that where released in a year. The basic information about every watch in this book are dimensions, weight, price, different versions etc. So it gives you a pretty good guidance when you’re looking to buy a used watch or just want to know the model range of a certain brand.
