The H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Perpetual Calendar

Presented in 2020, the Streamliner was Moser’s take on the hottest of watch categories, the luxury sports watch with integrated bracelet. But, in typical H. Moser style, the brand has decided to do things differently and not to follow the codes of the market. The Streamliner is a very personal, radically minimalistic take on the genre that has been highly successful so far. Following the initial Flyback Chronograph and Centre Seconds models, the brand has decided to make things more complicated, with a perpetual calendar… And if you’d think this would ruin the minimalistic approach, you’d be wrong, as Moser’s QP movement is as streamlined as the watch that is housing it… as you’ll be able to see in the video review of the H. The Streamliner Perpetual Calendar marks the fusion of two well-established concepts at H. Moser & Cie. On one side is the Streamliner watch, a luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet and a distinctive personality that did not try to emulate the classic of the category (think RO or PP). On the other is the brand’s classic perpetual calendar hand-wound movement with its extremely simplified display, so minimalistic that you can easily think you’re looking at a simple time-and-date watch. And that’s where the Streamliner Perpetual Calendar marks some points. Even though far more complex than the super-cool Matrix Green Centre Seconds model (a time-only watch), the QP edition retains all the simplistic beauty of the collection.

So, on one side we find back the signature, rather unique and bold design of the Streamliner, with its rounded cushion-shaped case, fluid, integrated bracelet with an almost organic look and matte satin-brushed finishing all around. There’s a slight retro-modern touch to this watch, inspired by the aesthetics of the Streamliner Moderne period (1920-1930), yet also a 1970s vibe that is a classic of the genre. It’s special but characterful and, in all honesty, pretty well executed in the metal. Offered here in a large stainless steel edition – 42.3mm in diameter – the watch remains very pleasant on the wrist and keeps the specifications of previous models, despite its more complex movement, including a 120m water-resistance.

The Streamliner Perpetual Calendar comes with a fumé grey dial, echoing the very first Chronograph model of 2020. The beauty of this perpetual calendar is that apart from the date – oddly positioned at 4 o’clock, but Moser doesn’t like classic elements – nothing really transpires QP here… In fact, the other important indication, the month, is discreetly displayed by a small central hand pointing one of the 12 hour markers to show the current month. And the less important indication of the leap year is seen on the back. Because of the high-power movement inside, the brand has given the QP Streamliner a power reserve indicator.

Inside is the in-house Calibre HMC 812. And if the name and the look feel rather new, the base is well known, being the HMC 341 used inside Endeavour Perpetual Calendar models – yet with a direct-drive central seconds hand. This powerful 7-day power reserve engine is showing more a contemporary look than before, with openworked bridges and dark grey coating.
