The Impressive Krayon Anywhere for Only Watch 2021
Prototype movement and métiers d’art dial, and a stunning-looking watch.
We continue our round-up of watches to be auctioned at Only Watch 2021, the biennial charity auction of luxury timepieces uniting some of the finest watchmakers to raise funds to support research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Today, we are taking a look at the Krayon Anywhere Only Watch 2021, a unique piece powered by the prototype movement used for the development of this special complication and featuring a handsome Métiers d’Art dial inspired by Claude Monet painting Impression, Soleil Levant (Sunrise).
Krayon is a young independent watchmaking brand that made a name for itself in 2017 with the presentation of a mind-blogging complicated watch known as Everywhere, the first wristwatch capable of displaying sunrise and sunset hours for any place on Earth, with the possibility to adjust the location via the crown! This impressive development earned Krayon a well-deserved industry accolade at the GPHG 2018 with the Innovation Prize. And in 2020, Remi Maillat, Watchmaker and Founder of the brand, came with a relatively speaking ‘simpler’ version of the watch called Anywhere.
The Krayon Anywhere shows the length of the day together with the sunrise and sunset hours at the place of your choice, anywhere in the world. Of course, there are other watches with such functionality but their location parameter is built-in: a cam is specifically designed for a given place on Earth. On the other hand, the Krayon Anywhere incorporates an internal adjustment system. If the input cannot be performed directly and needs to be adjusted by a watchmaker, this is still an interesting possibility if you move to another country or place and would like your watch to be adapted.
On the occasion of Only Watch 2021, Krayon created a special version of the model. First, this unique piece is equipped with the prototype calibre that enabled the complication’s development and that had been carefully preserved by Rémi Maillat. The 432-part hand-wound movement is beautifully decorated with complex angles, beautiful waves, polished jewel sinks, and more… The prototype caption is engraved on one of the bridges.
The watch also features a captivating métiers d’art dial, a miniature painting inspired by Claude Monet’s famous Impression, Soleil Levant. The champlevé artistry demonstrated by the artisan in bringing to life the hues and shades give this contemporary reinterpretation of the famous painting a standing all its own.
The Krayon Anywhere for Only Watch 2021 is presented in an elegant 39mm steel case that is surprisingly compact given the complexity of the movement. It comes on a calfskin leather strap. The estimate is CHF 95,000 to CHF 120,000 but we expect this one to be hammered at a significantly higher price.

What I would call a “pretty” watch. The price is pretty ugly !
One of my favorite among this auction
