Harry Winston Project Z6 Blue Edition
When we hear about Harry Winston timepieces, we immediately think about the mind-boggling Opus series, a yearly horological orgasm that showcases how incredibly beautiful, complex and innovative Haute Horlogerie can be. But here at Monochrome we also appreciate that Harry Winston introduced two timepieces to trigger our interest, by calling them the “Monochrome Editions“. We would love to review one of these watches with a monochromatic color scheme, but let’s first have look at one of Harry Winston’s latest pieces, a new version of Project Z6, called Project Z6 Blue Edition.
Harry Winston Project Z6 Blue Edition features, like its Z6 siblings, an off center hour/minute display and an alarm function, each of which have their own day/night indications. That’s a very clever addition, as it helps when setting the alarm or adjusting the time. The dial features the typical Harry Winston composition of overlapping disks for both the time and alarm-time. At the lower left side of the dial is the on/off indicator for the alarm function and through a small aperture in the dial the alarm hammer is visible.
The alarm hammer is rather unusual feat, however visually it offers a magnificent treat. The minute repeater style hammer, which strikes a gong, is fixed to the ZaliumTM case, which should enhance sound transmission, amplification and tone, according to Harry Winston. The hand-wound movement, referred to as caliber HW1010, emphasizes the practical functionality even more, because the double barrels guarantee a full 72-hour power- reserve and ensure that the complication will not disrupt the movement timekeeping functions.
Originally introduced in 2004 the Project Z introduced a new material in watchmaking, called Zalium, which was only used in aerospace until then. In 2011 Project Z6 was introduced and today’s Blue Edition still features the same 44 mm Zalium case, only now it’s grey DLC coated. Zalium is light, harder than titanium, non-allergenic, extremely anti-corrosion resistant and is zirconium alloy that is exclusive to Harry Winston, at least in the watch industry.
Harry Winston’s new Project Z6 Blue Edition is a casual chic and sporty watch with a very useful complication. For more info, please visit the Harry Winston website (click here).
