What is art; a question I tried to answer on more then one occasion. While dictionaries produce different explanations, in most conversation is usually boils down to a matter of personal taste. So let me share my personal opinion about the Hautlence HL2: I find it pure art. Steampunk mechanical art…

When Hautlence showed the first working prototypes of the HL2 roughly two years ago, the watch world, bot the industry and collectors, were absolutely thrilled. Of course I immediately shared photos of the first prototype and explained the workings. But I have to admit, the new video explains it much better.

Hautlence called the HL2 their ‘Second Philosophy of Watchmaking’ and in the mean time two (final) versions of the HL2 have been released. The HL2.1 is the white gold version and the photo above shows the pink gold HL2.2. In stead of explaining how this magnificent timepiece works, I suggest you take two minutes to watch the video.

And if you don’t care how it works, you still get to see a magnificent piece of steampunk mechanical art that even tells the time.

More information can be found on the Hautlence website and their official Facebook page.
