Introducing the Slim d’Hermes with slate grey and blue dials (specs & price)

We made a point recently, when reviewing the latest watch introduced by Hermes: this brand, as a watch designer and retailer (we can’t obviously called them watchmakers) shouldn’t be underestimated. When hearing this name you probably expect a nicely designed watch, with a “double tour” leather strap but with rather poor horological content. With the Slim d’Hermes, you’d be wrong. Yes, it is mainly a designer’s watch but the movement and the overall quality are beyond all suspicion. This Slim d’Hermes was a success and it’s time to enlarge their collection, with two new colours: slate grey and midnight blue.

Slim d'Hermes - slate grey and blue dial 2016

The Slim d’Hermes exposes a clean, pure and totally classical design… at first. Even if most people won’t even remark on it, this watch is full of details, whether we’re considering it on a design level or for its horological content. Hermes debuted the collection in 2015, at Baselworld and since, it has received quite some consideration, even from more hard-core watch enthusiasts (including us). First of all, its case, beyond being slim (as you can expect from the name of the watch), is perfectly balanced at 39.5mm. At first, it has nothing special but a look at the lugs reveals nice details.

Slim d'Hermes - blue dial 2016 - 1

The case is slim because inside ticks an ultra-thin mechanical movement with micro-rotor. And this movement comes from Vaucher Manufacture – and it is based on known parts. Vaucher, as well as Parmigiani Fleurier, are owned by the Sandoz Foundation, and guess what… Hermes also has some participation in Vaucher. It seems natural to use synergies inside the group. The Calibre H1950 can be seen through the sapphire crystal. It shows bridges adorned with an H pattern. It measures only 2.6mm height, thanks to its micro-rotor architecture.

Slim d'Hermes - numerals design

The main point of differentiation coming out of this Slim d’Hermes remains of course its dial. Then again, very clean and pure at first. However, some details bring originality, including these superbly designed numerals. Graphic and modern, they create a real visual identity to the Slim d’Hermes. The rest of the dial remains classical for a time-only (with small second) watch. Previsouly only available with a silvery white opaline dial, like the one we reviewed here, the Slim d’Hermes will enlarge its collection in 2016 with two new colours for the stainless steel version: a deep midnight blue and a modern slate grey. Both editions are delivered with a matching alligator leather strap.

You can read more details about the Slim d’Hermes in our review. Price for these new editions – midnight blue and slate grey – should be the same as the silver edition, meaning 5,650 Euros. More details on Hermes.com.
