Anonimo's connection to racing bikes and the Italian riders of the Leopard Racing team.
While the link between Anonimo and the sea or military forces is relatively easy to catch, the brand has recently started to explore new horizons. For instance, the Florentine brand has partnered with the FIA World Rally Championship to create the Militare Chronograph WRC Special Edition. Today, the connection to racing bikes is highlighted as Anonimo is now a partner of the Leopard Racing team. But as you’ll see, Italy is never far away.
For its first introduction of 2019, Anonimo has chosen to look at the world of motorbikes. A surprising choice for a brand that was created from the ashes of Panerai after Vendome/Richemont acquired it, and which is more associated with divers and military forces. Following important launches like the brand new Epurato (the brand’s vision of a casual, everyday watch) and the WRC edition, the brand looks back at one of its pillars, the Nautilo.
For this limited edition made in partnership with Leopard Racing team, an Italian motorbike team participating in Moto2, the brand takes the classic Nautilo model, a robust dive watch, as a base. This means that the base is familiar: a solid, well-executed, sporty piece with a 44.4mm diameter, a 60-minute rotating bezel, 200m water-resistance and the signature cushion-shaped case of the brand.
What differs with this new Anonimo Nautilo Leopard Racing 2019 is the choice of colours. As the official sponsor of the Leopard Racing motorcycle and car teams since 2015, Anonimo has chosen the team’s colours for the dial and the case: black and turquoise. Thus, the case mixes “nude” steel with black DLC-coated elements. The dial, presented on a sunray black background, shows several light blue accents, the official colour of Leopard Racing – a colour that can be seen on the inner flange, the minute track, the seconds hand counterweight, inscriptions on the dial and on the 60-minute scale of the bezel.
Powering this Anonimo Nautilo Leopard Racing 2019 is a tried-and-tested Swiss automatic Sellita SW-200, a clone of the ETA 2824 – a movement that is reliable, precise enough and easily serviceable. Complementing the look of this watch is a Cordura effect fabric and fireproofed strap, the same one used for the racing suits of the riders. The steel caseback is engraved with the logo of the racing team.
