Introducing – Armin Strom Gravity Sailing Edition (specs & price)
Armin Strom is certainly one of the manufactures we like most here at Monochrome – and when we say manufacture, we mean real, integrated manufacture of high-end movements, like explained here. Their watches have a highly desirable combination of haute horlogerie and skeletonization with a sporty and bold design – like if the best of both worlds were perfectly balanced in a single piece. This is why we’re always happy to show you their novelties, including this new Armin Strom Gravity Sailing Edition, celebrating the exciting and successful second season of the Armin Strom Sailing Team.
This new Armin Strom Gravity Sailing Edition is based on an existing model, the automatic, no-complication Gravity. Well, this watch, apparently simple, is of course one of the brand’s most accessible pieces, which doesn’t mean it has some great features. It comes with an in-house movement, designed, conceived and produced by Armin Strom, in their Biel / Bienne workshop, with automatic winding via micro-rotor, 5-day power reserve and already quite a good amount of decoration and skeletonization, to be seen as a very appealing movement. The barrel is visible at 1, the micro-rotor at 5, the small second is at 9 and finally, the display of the hours and minutes is slightly off-centered, a signature feature of Armin Strom watches.
This Armin Strom Gravity Sailing differed from the other editions (Air, Water, Fire and Earth) from the colors used on the case, dial and strap. The robust 43.4mm case, in stainless steel, is here coated with a black PVD treatment. The dial, on its side, receives some orange accents, on the small second indicator. The rest is mainly black (the ring for hours and minutes) or dark grey (plates of the movement are ruthenium plated). Finally the strap is in matt black with orange accents. This colors are a tribute to the catamaran racing under the colors of Armin Strom Sailing Team, which is is in fourth place in the 2016 GC32 Racing Tour, a competition that is held across Europe.
To celebrate the second season of the Armin Strom Sailing Team, Armin Strom created this limited commemorative edition of the Gravity collection and gave the team’s skipper Flavio Marazzi the first of 32 watches produced for the series. Skipper and helmsman Marazzi is Switzerland’s most successful sailing competitor, a four-time Olympian, and an Armin Strom ambassador.
The Armin Strom Gravity Sailing is, as said limited to 32 pieces and it will be priced at 13,900 Swiss Francs (retail price). More on arminstrom.com.
