For Baselworld 2014, Girard-Perregaux has been highly productive. Alongside a truly interesting Haute-Horlogerie collection, especially the Tourbillon Tri-Axial and the Neo-Tourbillon, GP has also presented several new versions of the Hawk: a cobalt blue Sea Hawk and now a pink gold edition of the Chrono Hawk, a more luxurious variation of their sporty chronograph.

The combination of pink gold and black ceramic was already introduced on the Hollywoodland Special Edition, which sports ceramic case with gold accents. Here Girard-Perregaux is going a step further with the upscale feeling, crafting a case made mainly of 18k pink gold, reinforced with black ceramic and rubber.

The angular shape of the case is the same as the stainless steel Chrono Hawk and Sea Hawk. This octagonal and bulky case presents a very nice brushed finish. Under the ceramic bezel sits an octagonal rubber ring. The crown, the pushers’ protective insert and the pushers themselves are also made of ceramic. This two-tone combination gives the Chrono Hawk a very appealing design, both sporty and chic. The shape of the case and of the integrated strap allow the watch to be very comfortable on the wrist, despite its size and weight. The Chrono Hawk measures, like its siblings, 44 mm in diameter, and is water resistant to a depth of 100 meters. Because of the precious materials and the alligator strap, we recommend not to jump into salty water with the Chrono Hawk Pink Gold on your wrist, however it’s a reassuring thought that it CAN easily survive any submersion.

Inside the Chrono Hawk ticks the GP3300-0076 in-house movement. The base movement is the reliable and modern self-winding 3-hands GP3300 (which is also used in the Girard-Perregaux 1966 and in several MB&F models, such as the Moonmachine), with a chronograph module on top, that offers and 46 hours of power reserve. The only regret we have concerning the Chrono Hawk, is that Girard-Perregaux has not yet opted for their own integrated chronograph movement, over the GP3300 with additional chrono module. This reliable and very well-finished GP3300 is visible through the sapphire case-back is and sports a distinct arrow-shaped rotor.

The dial features some nice details which create a pleasant visual depth. That feeling is reinforced by the applied hours markers, which slope down towards the centre of the dial, and a pattern inspired by the shape of the Girard-Perregaux tourbillon Bridges. Using the same colour combination, black with pink gold accents for the hands and indices, it offers very good legibility and nice reliefs. Once again, this new Chrono Hawk evinces a strong attention to details and boasts a high-end finish, especially for a sport-oriented watch.
