Introducing the Girard-Perregaux Traveller Large Date, Moonphase & GMT collection (Live Photos, specs and price)

The Traveller Collection by Girard-Perregaux continues to expand. Alongside the Chronograph, which was recently presented in full black titanium DLC here or in pink gold and that we reviewed in stainless steel, there is also a simpler edition, with large date and Moon-Phase. Now GP comes with an intermediate edition (in terms of complication) with an extra GMT function. Welcome the Girard-Perregaux Traveller Large Date, Moonphase & GMT collection, including the John Harrison Limited Edition.

While it was quite surprising to have a watch without a second time-zone in a collection called Traveller, Girard-Perregaux now resolves this issue in adding a GMT function, in a separated sub-dial at 4.30. Alongside this novelty, we find here the same layout as the Traveller Large Date & Moonphase, including a huge date window located at 12 and using 2 separated discs, one in white or in black according to the colour of the dial, and a transparent second one overlapping the first one – giving the illusion of a single disc. At 6 sits a moon-phase indicator, with a realistic representation of the night sky and of the moon. In the middle of this sub-dial also runs a small second.

The Girard-Perregaux Traveller Large Date, Moonphase & GMT relies on the nice and in-house calibre GP03300-0093, a 30mm self winding movement, with 46 Hours of power reserve, 35 jewels and that ticks at a modern frequency of 4Hz (28,800 bph). It is finished with Geneva stripes, perlage, chamfered angles and blued screws. A specific rotor, with a weight inspired by the shape of the Girard-Perregaux tourbillon bridge, is used to wind the barrel. The case measures 44mm but allows a very balanced placement on the wrist, thanks to very curved lugs.

It is available as a regular collection, in stainless steel with a white face and in 18k pink gold, both with a white or a black dial. All of them come with an alligator strap and a folding buckle, in a matching material.

The John Harrison Limited Edition

Alongside these 3 serial editions, Girard-Perregaux also introduces a 50-piece limited edition dedicated to the visionary John Harrison and to the tercentenary of the Longitude act passed by the British Parliament. This Board solved the issue of Longitude (believe it or not, but before that, only the latitudes existed – and we’re talking of an era where GPS didn’t exist yet…). John Harrison presented in 1735 the first instrument that was truly worthy of interest and had a real chance of providing a solution to the thorny problem of the calculation of a ship’s longitude.

To pay tribute to this great achievement, Girard-Perregaux adorned the Traveller Large Date, Moonphase & GMT in 18k pink gold and white face with a one of the meridians engraved onto the dial. The GMT sub-dial is also showing a map’s layout, with the Great-Britain highlighted in vivid red. This limited edition to 50 pieces is priced at € 25,750 Eur.
