The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 38mm and 41mm Gold Watches
A pair of luxurious models just ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
In two weeks from now will start the long-awaited Tokyo 2020 Olympic games. Despite a 1-year delay due to the complex situation in the entire world, it is now sure, the Games will happen (but behind closed doors…) For the 29th time since 1932, Omega will serve as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games. Following several Speedmaster and Seamaster models for the occasion, the Biel-based brand is releasing today a new pair of watches, in the same vein as this model, but now paying tribute to that iconic sporting honour that is the gold medal. Here are the new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 38mm and 41mm Gold Watches.
In 2019, about a year of the start of the Games (at least, when it was still supposed to happen in 2020), Omega released a special edition watch based on its 41mm Aqua Terra watch. Mostly recognizable thanks to its blue textured dial, it now serves as a base for a pair of yellow gold watches. Offered either in 38mm and 41mm diameters, the classic size of the Aqua Terra collection, the two models might well be visually close, there are several differences to note, mostly due to a more masculine or a more feminine orientation.
Both watches have in common the use of warm and luxurious 18k yellow gold for the case, as well as their polished blue ceramic dials, which have been laser-engraved with a pattern inspired by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem. The full emblem can also be found transferred on the casebacks. Apart from the different diameters, the watches also come with slightly different markers, tracks and hands. The 41mm watch, sportier and sharper, has triangular applied indexes, an external minute track, a trapezoidal date window and sharper broad arrow hands. The 38mm edition is, on the other hand, more gentle in its design, with drop-shaped applied indexes, no external track, a round date window and slimmer broad arrow hands.
Both Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 gold watches are worn on blue alligator leather straps, closed by a folding clasp. Under the sapphire crystal with the Olympic Games logo are two different movements, but of course, both are Master Chronometer certified and highly resistant to magnetic fields. The 41mm version is powered by the Calibre 8901, a larger and more powerful movement with twin-barrel and 60h power reserve. The 38mm watch comes with the Calibre 8801, which features a single barrel and boasts 55h of power reserve.
The two watches are special, non-limited editions and are delivered in a special presentation box. The 41mm Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 yellow gold (ref. 522.53.41.21.03.001) retails for EUR 18,200. The 38mm Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 yellow gold (ref. 522.53.38.20.03.001) retails for EUR 17,500.
