The Laurent Ferrier Montre Ecole Annual Calendar Navy & Orange
The Laurent Ferrier that you'll dare to wear in summer (ok, maybe not at the beach).
When you think about Laurent Ferrier, you’re bound to picture a rather compact, classic, smooth and highly elegant watch with neutral, soft colours. And rightfully so, as this has been the idea behind the brand for about 10 years. But recently, LF launched the Grand Sport Tourbillon, a far more daring model with a sporty style and bolder colours. Following the presentation of this watch, Laurent Ferrier wants to offer some lighter, less traditional models too, with a colourful new take on its Montre Ecole Annual Calendar and its bright, summery combination of navy blue and orange.
As for the watch itself, there’s nothing new technically speaking or display wise. This new Montre Ecole Annual Calendar Navy is basically a colour variation, sharing the same case and movement as before. Presented in 2018, this watch was an important step forward for the brand; it not only introduced the first calendar complication for the brand but also a new base movement that would serve as a base for later developments.
Housed in a 40mm stainless steel case with soft and polished surfaces (like most LF watches), this new take on the Montre Ecole Annual Calendar retains the same proportions as before and has the same straight lugs adorned with a cabochon and the round, “boule-shaped” crown. What is new for this year is this 10-piece limited edition with a bold colour scheme. The galvanic navy blue dial, still with a satin-brushed centre and a circular satin-brushed hour ring, is combined with a sprinkling of orange accents on the dial and hands. Indeed, the signature white gold Assegai-shaped hands are coated in orange and the same colour can be found on the small seconds and some of the hour indexes. Unexpected from LF but also refreshing. The same tone can be found on the strap, in orange Nubuck leather – a blue strap can also be ordered for a subtler look.
As for the display and the calendar module, nothing has changed. There’s still this great annual calendar function that only needs one correction a year since it can compute months with 30 or 31 days. The display consists of central hours/minutes, a small seconds, a pointer-date with numerals on the periphery as well as two bevelled windows for the day of the week and the month. Powering the Laurent Ferrier Montre Ecole Annual Calendar is a proprietary hand-wound calibre equipped with a classic Swiss lever escapement. Powerful, with its 80-hour autonomy, it is also exquisitely decorated with thin Geneva stripes, hand-polished anglage, and a blade click for the barrel. A power reserve indicator sits discreetly on the movement side.
Availability & price
