An accessible, of course blue-themed, chronograph by Longines for retailer Bucherer.
As the largest watch retailer in Europe (if not worldwide), Bucherer has the power to ask brands to be a bit flexible and create specifically designed watches. Those are named the “Bucherer Blue Editions” and, as you’ve probably guessed (or already know), they all share the same theme: blue details. One of the latest models in this series that comprises multiple (cool) watches is a relatively accessible and elegant chronograph. Meet the Longines Master Collection Chronograph Bucherer Blue Editions.
An elegant and accessible Chronograph
The base for this new watch in the “Blue Editions” series is a well-known, rather traditional watch made by equally traditional brand Longines. The Master Collection Chronograph, launched in 2005, is a nice, elegant and well-proportioned watch with a classical – understand too shy – look, available in either a black sunray dial or with a textured silvery-white dial with blued hands. The dial features stylized Arabic numerals and leaf-shaped hands, for an elegant, dressy result.
The case, available in steel only, measures a reasonable 40mm diameter and is paired with either an alligator strap or with a steel bracelet. The movement inside is the calibre L651, basically a modular automatic chronograph known as the ETA 2894-1, with 4Hz frequency, 37 jewels and 42-hour power reserve. Following the classic/dress watch theme, the display is retrained and balanced, with a bi-compax layout – small seconds at 3 o’clock and 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock – as well as a date positioned at 6 o’clock. The movement is visible through a sapphire caseback and shows perlage, blued screws and Geneva stripes.
Finally, as an elegant chronograph, the case is softly-shaped and polished, with round chrono pushers and a relatively thin profile. Water resistance is of 30 metres. Altogether, a nice watch that lacks a bit of sex-appeal… But that is before Bucherer takes over the design and creates its “Blue Editions” model!
The “Bucherer Blue Editions” theme
In the vein of the GO Senator Excellence, the Breguet Marine or the Oris Chronograph we’ve already presented on MONOCHROME, Bucherer adds here the blue touch to the Longines Master Collection Chronograph. Specifications, proportions, movement, display and case design remain the same as the standard Longines watch, with only the dial and the strap being updated. Still, this makes a world of a difference.
The dial of the Longines Master Collection Chronograph Bucherer Blue Editions is a two-tone version, with the background treated in dark blue with a sunray brushed pattern. The inner flange for the seconds as well as the two sub-counters are done here in silver, contrasting with the rest of the dial. The hands and the numerals also reliy on this silvery theme. Suprisingly, the watch becomes more contemporary, more casual and a bit bolder than the traditonal white or black editions, without loosing its elegant attributes.
The Longines Master Collection Chronograph Bucherer Blue Editions is worn on a cool and slightly vintage dark brown leather strap with a steel triple safety folding clasp.

But wr (only 30 m) is lousy.
And the lack of lume makes it worthless in the dark.
The date covering half of 6 is criminal.
