The New Colours of the Nomos Club Campus
Absolute Gray and Future Orange join the collection.
If you look at the collection that is offered by Nomos, you’ll find a multitude of accessible, greatly designed and nicely manufactured models. Playing on classic traits for some, or simply being fresh and modern in some of the collections, they all come with that design twist the German manufacturer is known (and loved) for. Yet, one collection is even more focussed on newcomers and younger generations, the Nomos Club Campus – the watch for graduation and other milestones. This year, the brand adds two nice colours to the range, a fresh Absolute Gray and a bold Future Orange.
The attractively priced and slightly more robust offering of the brand, the Nomos Club is the definition of cool and light-minded. This is even truer when it comes to the Club Campus models, watches that the brand sees as “the first step into the world of mechanical wristwatches” and a watch that “serves as companions for all the successes and challenges to come.” Or, if you like, the first mechanical watch for younger generations, with a design that is everything but serious, but still with all the credentials of a true Nomos watch.
The most distinctive design cue of the Nomos Club Campus is its bilingual dial, the brand’s vision of a “California” display, where Arabic and Roman numerals, as well as baton markers, are here to indicate the hours. But because Nomos does things a little differently, the Roman numerals are here on the lower side and the Arabic numerals are displayed on top – the opposite of a classic California dial.
What’s new this year is the addition of two colours to this sub-collection, namely Absolute Gray and Future Orange. The first is a modern classic with a fresh touch, but a watch that could be office-ready. The second one is far sportier, more weekend-oriented but also rather attractive. On all models, the small seconds hand is picked up in neon orange while the markers, all executed in Super-LumiNova and shining blue in the dark, are outlined in bright violet/blue or red.
As with previous editions of the Nomos Club Campus, the case is offered in two sizes. Executed in polished stainless steel, with a domed bezel, it measures either 36mm or 38.5mm in diameter, but always with thinness, being 8.2mm or 8.5mm in height. Despite these compact measurements, the cases feature a screwed caseback and are 100m water-resistant. The polished back can be personalized (included in the price) with an 88-character message.
Under the hood is the brand’s hand-wound Calibre Alpha, a classic movement produced by the brand for many years and that has a proven track record. It stores up to 43 hours of power reserve and beats at 3Hz. In addition to the central hours and minutes, it displays the seconds at 6 o’clock in a sub-counter.
The new Nomos Club Campus are worn on an anthracite or light grey velour leather strap. They are now available for orders at the brand’s website or at retailers. The 36mm model is priced at EUR 1,100 and the 38mm edition at EUR 1,200 – fair prices for a well-made watch from a renowned German manufacture.
