The association of Omega Watches with the Olympic Games is a long, very long story. Since 1932, Omega is the official timekeeper of the Games. Besides the technical aspect of this partnership, Omega also celebrates this association via several limited editions dedicated to the aficionados, like the Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016, the Seamaster Planet Ocean Sochi 2014 or the Seamaster Bullhead Chronograph Edition Rio 2016. It’s now time to look at the coming Winter Games, which will take place in South Korea. And here is the first dedicated watch, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Pyeongchang 2018 Limited Edition.
To celebrate the 2018 Winter Games, Omega chose to edit a new watch based on the classical and rather elegant Seamaster Aqua Terra. The Aqua Terra is a casual sports watch, not a proper tool like the Seamaster 300 or the Seamaster Ploprof. It remains rather comprehensive on the wrist at 41.5mm. Unlike its diver-oriented siblings of the Seamaster collection, it doesn’t feature a rotating bezel with diving-scale, which gives it a more discreet look on the wrist, easier to wear on a daily basis. The case, as well as the bracelet, are made of stainless steel, alternating brushed and polished surfaces.
Like it is the norm now for the manufacture, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Pyeongchang 2018 Limited Edition features the new series of mechanical movements, with highly antimagnetic properties, co-axial escapement and double barrel. The Calibre 8500, which could be found on the Spectre Edition of the Aqua Terra, is visible thought the caseback. For this limited edition, Omega includes the logo of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Games on the sapphire crystal. The number of the watch is engraved on the caseband (xxxx/2018).
The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Pyeongchang 2018 Limited Edition features the usual stripped pattern on the dial, which is here made in dark blue. The main difference in this limited edition is the 5-color “Pyeongchang 2018” marking between 3 and 6, on the inner flange. For the rest, this limited edition is faithful to the normal watches, with broad-arrow hands, triangular applied indexes and date in a window at 3.
The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Pyeongchang 2018 Limited Edition will be produced in 2018 pieces, delivered in a special Olympic-themed box, and priced at 5,300 Euros (inc. taxes). More detail here.
