Introducing the Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer in Black and Orange

Most of certainly know the Planet Ocean collection, which in a few years, became a sort of a norm for the Seamaster. This high-performance dive watch is known for its 600m water resistance and helium escape valve but mainly (and that’s what matter for most wearers), it is recognizable because of its rather bulky and masculine design, making it successful for those in a need of sportiness. For Baselworld 2016, there’s a revamp of the collection, including this new Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer in Black and Orange – new size, new movement, new colors, new materials… but still the iconic look.

This new Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer bears several improvements, several innovations (at least for this collection) and also brings a bunch of visual evolutions. First of all, the case will see the arrival of a new size: 43.5mm, a case that sits right in the middle of the previous 42mm and 45.5mm (as of now, we don’t know if this 43.5mm case replaces the others or if it is an additions – more details during Baselworld).

On this edition, the case is made in stainless steel (but note that a titanium edition, with grey bezel and titanium dial also exists). Something also noticeable, at least it is what Omega says in the text, is the thinner case. However, at 16.04mm, it is still a bulky watch.

Alongside this new case there’s also a new bezel insert. Previously, the Planet Ocean was featuring a bezel insert in ceramic with LiquidMetal numerals and scale. Now, we have something a bit different. Still, the insert is made in black and polished ceramic. Still the the numerals and scales are engraved and then filled with LiquidMetal process. However, there’s also a second insert for the 15-minute dive scale, here in orange and made in rubber.

The dial of the Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer remains visually close to the existing editions, with its typical applied indexes and large arrow hands. On this edition – stainless steel, black dial – the numerals, the Seamaster logo, the second hand tip as well as the depth rate are printed in orange, to match the bezel. Finally, the dial is also made in ceramic, black and polished as the bezel (attested by the Zr02 inscription on the dial). As usual with the Planet Ocean Collection, it features a date at 3 (and thankfully, the disc date is matching the dial).

We haven’t talk about the movement yet… and it is certainly the main evolution of the Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm, as it new features the Master Chronometer Calibre 8900 – meaning a movement with co-axial escapement, antimagnetic properties (resistant to 15,000 gauss), entirely produced in-house, certified chronometer by METAS and with 4 years warranty. This automatic movement, visible from the caseback, boasts 60 hours of power reserve due to two barrels.

Lastly, to complement the look of the Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer, it features a brand new strap, mixing black rubber for the structure, orange rubber on the edges and a black lining the top, depicting a sort of fiber.
