Three New Models Panerai x Luna Rossa Team – PAM01038, PAM01037 and PAM01036
Flying the colours of the Luna Rossa, Panerai launches three Luminors watches inspired by the America's Cup.
Panerai’s partnership with Luna Rossa, the Challenger of Record of the 36th America’s Cup, was celebrated earlier this year with the Luna Rossa Challenger Submersible PAM01039 model. A 47mm dive watch with 300m water-resistance and a carbon fibre case like the monohull of the AC75 Luna Rossa, this first commemorative model had a sailcloth dial and touches of red and white like the Luna Rossa logo. As the official sponsor of the Italian team, Panerai has launched three watches directly inspired by the materials and technologies used by the Luna Rossa yacht competing in the America’s Cup: Luminor Luna Rossa Regatta 47mm PAM01038; Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono Flyback 44m PAM01037; and Luna Rosa GMT 44mm PAM01036.
COMMON DENOMINATORS
Although none of the models is a novelty, the colour scheme of black, grey, red and white echo the colours of the Luna Rossa yacht. Common denominators across all three models include the use of lightweight, sturdy and corrosion-resistant materials and the incorporation of functions that are useful in regattas. All the watches have a 12-sided screw-down caseback with engravings of the Luna Rossa logo, the yacht and the America’s Cup and all three watches feature a sapphire crystal protecting the dial obtained from corundum.
The incorporation of grey sailcloth on the sandwich dial is common to all three watches as is the white Super-LumiNova on the hour markers and hands that glow green in the dark. And last, but certainly not least, all three are fitted with in-house Panerai automatic movements with two spring barrels offering a beefy 3-day power reserve.
LUMINOR LUNA ROSSA REGATTA 47mm PAM01038
This model is equipped with a regatta countdown function, a knots scale to calculate speed, a robust 3-day power reserve and a Carbotech case, the same material used on the hull of the Luna Rossa. Even the hallmark protective crown lever of the Luminor family s is crafted in Carbotech with its distinctive marbled effect. With layers and layers of carbon fibres bonded and reinforced by polymers, Carbotech is extremely resilient and hard-wearing, as well as being corrosion-resistant. The automatic in-house flyback chronograph movement – calibre P.9100/R – is the only movement at Panerai to feature a regatta countdown function specifically designed for the world of competitive sailing.
Quick facts: 47mm diameter x 19.94mm height – Carbotech case, bezel and safety lock device – screw-down black DLC-coated caseback – 100m water-resistant – grey sailcloth sandwich dial – hour counter at 3 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock – knots scale on flange – automatic P.9100/R calibre with 3-day power reserve – black calf leather strap – black DLC-coated titanium buckle and clasp – EUR 23,500
LUMINOR LUNA ROSSA CHRONo FLYBACK 44MM PAM01037
An automatic flyback chronograph, this model is fitted with Panerai’s all-purpose in-house chronograph movement, the P9100. As an integrated chronograph with column wheel and vertical clutch, the architecture of the movement allows a precise start of the chronograph as well as a smooth action of the pushers. Flying the colours of the Luna Rossa, the case, bezel and protective crown lever are made from micro-sandblasted black ceramic. Resilient and lightweight, the matte high-tech ceramic gives the watch a sleek, stealth presence.
Quick facts: 44mm diameter x 18.40mm height – case, bezel and safety lock device made from sandblasted black ceramic – tachymetre scale in knots – black DLC-coated titanium screw-down caseback – 100m water-resistance – grey sailcloth dial – automatic P9.100 calibre with 3-day power reserve – black calf leather strap – black DLC-coated titanium buckle and clasp – EUR 17,500
LUMINOR LUNA ROSSA GMT 44MM PAM01036
The simplest of the three models but the one with the highest water-resistance, this Luminor Luna Rossa incorporates a practical GMT complication, powered by the same movement of first Luna Rossa Challenger Submersible 47mm PAM01039 model introduced at the SIHH in January 2019. The case and bezel are both made from black DLC-coated titanium, although the protective device over the winding crown is made from ceramic. Like its siblings, the dial is covered in dark grey sailcloth and this model features a date window at 3 o’clock and a running seconds at 9 o’clock. The GMT hand has a triangular tip outlined in red with white Super-LumiNova in its interior, just like the hand on the running seconds.
Quick facts: 44mm diameter x 15.65mm height – case and bezel black DLC-coated titanium, protective crown device in black ceramic – black DLC-coated titanium caseback – 300m water-resistance – grey sailcloth dial – automatic P.9010/GMT calibre with 3-day power reserve – black calf leather strap – black DLC-coated titanium buckle and clasp – EUR 10,900
