Introducing the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Boutique Edition, now with Grey Dial and back at 37mm (specs & price)
For Watches & Wonders 2015, A. Lange and Söhne adds two new models to their entry level watch, the Saxonia. This watch, even if not the hottest of the collection (compared to the Datograph or the Zeitwerk) remains one of the best deals possible when it comes to elegant, discreet, dress-watches – even more since the new design introduced at the SIHH 2015. Previsouly available only with a classical sliver dial, the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia can now be ordered in a Boutique Edition with a dark grey dial – oh wait, there’s more… It’s back at 37mm.
For 20 years now, the Saxonia had been the traditional offer from A. Lange & Söhne, a timeless watch with a highly classical design and no other goal than the most important one: displaying time with elegance. This collection was renewed during the 2015 edition of the SIHH, with a new design (for the hand-wound, the automatic and the dual time editions) and mainly smaller diameters, something we clearly applauded. Indeed, the Saxonia Hand-Wound went from 37mm on the older edition to 35mm now… well, until now, as this new boutique edition brings back the larger case that measures 37mm, but still with the new dial, with longer and cleaner indexes and minute track.
It’s quite a strange choice from Lange to first downsize the Saxonia and then to bring back a larger edition. Possibly, the 35mm was seen as too small for some collectors – even if it is, for us here, at Monochrome-Watches, a perfect choice and great sense of elegance. However, 37mm remains small enough to keep the watch properly understated and discreet, two qualities required for any dress-watches. Behind the caseback, we found back the Calibre L941.1 (the same as in the other hand-wound Saxonia), a 45-hour power reserve movement finished with the same precision and sense of detail as every other watches manufactured by Lange – which means a proper feast for the eyes.
Exclusively available in the 16 official boutiques of the brand, the new A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Grey Dial (just like the Datograph Perpetual) can be ordered in pink gold (priced at $16,600) or in white gold (priced at $17,800). More details on A. Lange & Sohne official.

Curious about the notch that shows on both watches in the second photo……?? If its a lighting effect, it only serves to confuse.
