The history of Armin Strom can be captured within a single word: skeletonization. Reminiscent of bygone eras for the Swiss brand, Armin Strom introduced a fully openworked and engraved timepiece during this year’s Baselworld. The One Week Skeleton features an in house movement, just like the Gravity collection, with an in-depth view on all the components.
The Armin Strom movements in the Gravity collection are always finished to high standards and decorated with the thematic engravings Water, Earth or Fire. With the One Week Skeleton there is the same level of finishing, this time paired with a full view of the movement. The mainplate, gear train and bridges have been extensively skeletonized and that what remained has been extensively engraved.
The in-house calibre ARM09-S is placed in the familiar Armin Strom case, with the downward lip at 6 o’clock as the clear giveaway. Measuring 43.40 mm across, it is available in yellow, rose or white gold.
Providing a big part of the Armin Strom DNA, the Calibre ARM09-S is set up with a three-circle layout. The circle at 9 o’clock houses the small seconds and power reserve indicator. The double spring-barrel, with one at 2 o’clock and one at 4 o’clock, are fully opened up, and provide a nice visual impact when winding the watch. The barrels are held in place by an engraved “Double-C” bridge, which covers the small seconds at the same time. Due to both barrels, the movement holds up to 7 days of power.
The minute track is displayed on a sapphire chapter ring, slightly off centre to accommodate the Armin Strom logo at three o’clock. The chapter ring is decorated with applied gold markers on the hours and printed white markers in between. The gold hands stand out well against the grey movement, and are painted white in order to aid legibility.
The Armin Strom One Week Skeleton is limited to 50 pieces, and comes at a retail price of $ 49,900 USD.
