Girard-Perregaux Sea-Hawk Blue

The Sea Hawk is the interpretation of a sports watch by Girard-Perregaux, and we have to admit, it’s a pretty good one. We presented you the new Sea Hawk, before it was launched at Baselworld 2013, and its chronograph brother, the Chrono Hawk. For 2014, this chunky dive watch has been updated to a new colour scheme – a Cobalt blue dial with Orange accents – that looks really great for summer.

The Sea Hawk is an iconic watch for GP and the 2013 version maintained the visual characteristics that have created the legend: rubber strap, crown at 4 o’clock and specific layout of the dial. The case is also part of the appeal generated by the Sea Hawk, with its octagonal rubber ring underneath the bezel and the angular, and rather bulky, rugged case.

The main update for this year is the new colour of the dial and bezel. Always with its honeycomb texture, the dial is now presented in a bright cobalt blue that contrasts with the orange accents of the hands. The uni-directional rotating bezel, made of steel with injected rubber, is now in two colours, black and orange, to ensure a perfect reading of diving times. The rubber strap with folding buckle is now in cobalt blue too. The watch also is available on steel bracelet.

For the rest, the Sea hawk is still the very appealing sports watch that we know, both for its diving capacities and its level of finishing. The 44mm stainless steel case itself needs to be described, as the level of finish is really amazing for a sport watch. Every facets – and there are lots of them – features a brushed finish in a specific direction. Believe us, that’s not an easy watch to craft. The Sea Hawk is guaranteed water-resistant up to 1000 meters and features a Helium valve on the left side of the case.

This high-end feeling can also be found inside the watch, as it features the in-house GP3300 self-winding calibre. It has hour, minute, second, and date functions, together with a 46-hour power reserve indicator and the movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz. Even if you can’t see it, the movement is, as always with GP, very well finished.

On the wrist, the Sea hawk is a very masculine and robust watch. The 44mm, as well as the weight and thickness, can be felt, but the shape of the case helps to balance it on the wrist, even small ones. The new colour scheme works really great, even if it’s not the most discreet theme we’ve seen. If you prefer a more discrete dive watch, go for the new Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000. But the GP is more exclusive, funkier too and that makes it one of the very few high-end watches, perfect for summer, weekends, and vacations or just for people that want to be (a tad) different.

The Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk Cobalt blue will be available just before summer for EUR 9.800 on rubber strap and EUR 11.000 on steel bracelet.
