Introducing the Laurent Ferrier Galet Square with Sector Dial, a unique piece for Only Watch 2015
Only Watch is certainly one of the best examples of how charity and watches can come together and create stupendous things. Twice a year, this event is firstly an occasion to support an important cause – funding the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy – and also to discover unique pieces from the most prestigious watch brands. Several announcements this year: one concerns the auction itself and the rest will concern the watches offered. First one to pull the trigger and release their one of a kind piece is: Laurent Ferrier, which comes with just the nicest edition ever seen of the Galet Square, with a sector dial – a unique piece for Only Watch 2015.
First of all, the main novelty about Only Watch this year concerns the auction itself. The bi-annual auction will be held in Geneva (instead of Monaco) this fall and will be hosted by Phillips Auction (instead of Antiquorum), meaning that behind the hammer, we’ll find no one else than Mister Aurel Bacs (from Bacs and Russo). What doesn’t change however are the lots that will be offered during this auction: 40 unique watches designed especially by the most prestigious brands, in order to raise funds to help the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy. This auction already gave us some stunning one-of-a-kind timepieces, such as the Patek Philippe ref. 5004T Split-Seconds Perpetual Calendar in Titanium for Only Watch 2013, the Panda MB&F HM4 for Only Watch 2011 or a superb Patek Philippe Tourbillon Minute Repeater for Only Watch 2011. Of course Patek will participate again this year and, of course, the watch they will come with is already highly expected. Another of our favorite brands does participate again this year: Laurent Ferrier – and it’s not a first attempt, as you may remember the Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral for Only Watch 2013.
Beware: the watch Laurent Ferrier is bringing for the 2015 Edition of Only Watch is simply staggering! Sorry for such an enthusiasm but clearly, words are missing. This unique edition for Only Watch is based on the Laurent Ferrier Galet Square, the ‘value proposition‘ (relatively speaking) of the brand introduced this year at Baselworld, a stainless steel watch (something that makes it kind of special as the brand usually use this metal only for limited or unique editions) with a cushion-shaped case and the usual superb automatic movement, featuring a micro-rotor, an escapement with double direct impulse on the balance and a brilliant hand finishing. For the occasion, Laurent Ferrier has redesigned the case to give it an even more vintage shape with straight lugs fitted out with cabochons.
The main attraction remains the new dial, what collectors call a sector or scientific dial – Patek Philippe aficionados will understand what we’re talking about. This two-tone dial – brighter in the middle – has this specific hour track found on 1920s/1930s watches designed for doctors or scientists. It shows large hour markers connected together by a track that circles the dial. Around it, we also find a minute track and at 6, the small second also shows a sector dial layout. The combination of this dial, together with the very cool redesigned stainless steel, these superb thin lugs and one of the nicest movements around, creates a really astonishing watch.
You’ll have one chance and one chance only to acquire this watch. It will be by attending the Only Watch 2015 Auction on Novemer 7, 2015 in Geneva. More details on OnlyWatch.com and Laurent-Ferrier.ch.
