If Tudor is regarded as the accessible arm of Rolex, what has been unveiled today is not that accessible anymore… Well, it remains, for what it is at least, relatively fairly priced, but it is clearly out of Tudor’s comfort zone. Based on the brand’s highly acclaimed and appreciated vintage-inspired dive watch, the BB58, the brand has just released a new luxurious edition made of 18k yellow gold and equipped with an oh-so-trendy green dial/bezel combination. Meet the new Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight 79018V.
Case material aside, there are no major differences between this new yellow gold edition of the Black Bay Fifty-Eight and a classic steel version, like this blue edition or the black gilt version. The main difference is, of course, the solid 18k yellow gold case. Most of the time, precious Tudor watches are two-tone watches – with even some of the parts only capped in gold, not even solid gold. Here, it’s solid gold all around, for the case, the crown, the bezel and the caseback. For the rest, the surfaces are entirely brushed – even the bevel on the side – and the 39mm diameter remains unchanged. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial, the crown screws down and the water-resistance is still rated at 200 metres.
One of the other evolutions concerns the colour scheme. In order to differentiate this Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight 79018V 18k gold from the rest of the collection, the brand adopts an unprecedented matte green colour. It is found on the anodised aluminium insert of the bezel as well as on the dial. All the contrasting elements are executed in gold colour (bezel) or even in solid gold, for the hands and applied indexes.
To match this bold colour, Tudor delivers its new Black Bay Fifty-Eight 79018V with two straps. One is a classic dark brown alligator with an 18k yellow gold buckle and beige stitching. The second one is a green Jacquard fabric strap with a gold band, and again its own 18k gold buckle.
Under a sapphire caseback – yes, that’s new for this model – is the brand’s manufacture calibre MT5400. This automatic, reliable and precise engine beats at 4Hz, stores up to 70h of power reserve and comes with a silicon hairspring for anti-magnetic properties. Its precision is certified by COSC.
The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight 79018V in 18k yellow gold with its green dial/bezel has a 5-year transferable guarantee without registration or mandatory maintenance checks. It will be priced at CHF 16,000 (incl. VAT).
