IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic Edition Laureus – Limited Edition for Charity
Every year IWC selects one watch from their collection, usually a new model, that will be introduced with a beautiful deep blue dial and with a closed and engraved case back. There’s a good reason for this, that goes further than just a striking blue dial. These blue dial models are limited editions that IWC introduces (every year) for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. This year it is the Portuguese Chronograph Classic Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” and it’s limited to 1,000 pieces.
This is the eighth time that IWC is supporting the good work carried out across the globe by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation with a limited-edition timepiece in characteristic Laureus blue. Last year it was the Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph and in 2011 it was the very beautiful Ingenieur Automatic.
At Monochrome-Watches we love the combination of high-end watchmaking and charity! We’re supporting the Polio Watch initiative and we’ve got some great news about that soon! IWC suports several charities and this is one that we just love. It’s all about giving children around the world a chance at a better future.
George Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen says: “The future of children and young people is an issue that concerns us all. This is especially true in those parts of the world where the younger generation is denied the right to a normal childhood by poverty, violence and discrimination.” Laureus attempts to address these problems with sports projects which use inspiration, hope and values to alleviate the suffering these young people are faced with in their everyday lives. “The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has a positive impact on the lives of over 1.5 million children“.
IWC Schaffhausen has been a driving force behind the organization since 2005. As said, every year they launch an exclusive special edition and part of the proceeds from the sale of these timepieces goes directly to the Laureus Foundation and contributes to the funding of its projects. So IF you already planned to buy the new Portuguese Chronograph Classic, than this blue dial version if the one to get!
Every Laureus special edition can be recognized by the special blue dial and the closed case back that is engraved. This is not the usual engraving, however it displays a child’s drawing. IWC organizes an annual children’s drawing competition within all the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation projects worldwide. The drawing that is selected by the jury, will be displayed on the Laureus special edition’s case back.
This year’s winner was 16-year-old Masha Nikulina from the Russian Federation. Her picture shows happy children skiing and playing around in the snow.
Doing something for charity can also bring you a very beautiful watch to wear! For more information, visit this page about Laureus Sports for Good Foundation at the IWC website.
