Jaquet-Droz unveils 3 Grande Seconde Limited Edition Watches fashioned out of Ceramic and with ‘Clous de Paris’ Dial
Jaquet-Droz creations are singular, identifiable at a glance. A modern take on a rich legacy, their design exude a long-lasting watchmaking tradition: pure, elegant styling with an attractive ‘je-ne-sais-quoi’. This versatile watch comes in many iterations, whether it be the sporty Grande Second SW or the more ‘dressy’ Grande Second Off-Centered. The latest versions, three limited editions, come with a ceramic case and add a Clous de Paris dial to the mix.
The colour and material of the dial, of course, makes a whole lot of difference. Sure, that’s something that we at Monochrome are more than aware of. However, we’re rather surprised to see the result of the new Clous de Paris pattern to the dials of three ceramic limited edition Grande Seconde models from Jaquet Droz. These are now unveiled in three ‘monochrome’ limited editions of 28 pieces each.
Fashioned out of black or white ceramic, the 44 mm case frames a textured dial whose classic layout is accentuated by a ‘Clous de Paris’ guilloche. This guilloché pattern is characterized by the embossing of small (in this case pyramidal) knobs. Such decoration is more often used on dials, bezels, or even the entire case (like with this URWERK)!
There are three new watches, of which two in black and one in white. The white ceramic and one of the black ceramic versions are the ‘normal’ Grande Second featuring the well-known dial layout with a large seconds subdial at the 6 o’clock position, and a small hours and minutes subdial at the upper half of the watch’ face. A third version, also in black, adds a power reserve indication at the 9 o’clock position.
Powering the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Ceramic ‘Clous de Paris’ limited editions is the automatic calibre JD2663, based on the immaculately engineered and constructed FP1150 calibre. The calibre JD4063D-S power reserve Grande Seconde ceramic ‘Clous de Paris’ uses the same base with the addition of the power reserve indication. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), it offers a healthy power reserve of 65 hours.
Turning the watch over, one can admire the very nice movement finish – not that we would expect anything less from the brand. The bridges are decorated with Geneva stripes emanating from the centre. The rotor features a sunray pattern engraved in relief.
The Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Ceramic Cclous de Paris is paired with cool fabric straps matching the textured dials. These are secured with either an 18k pink gold pin buckle (for the white ceramic version) or a black PVD-coated steel / ceramic folding buckle.
