One of the really handy things about (the) internet is that it’s super fast, interactive, visual communication. Maybe a strange way to start an article on a weblog about watches, but allow me to explain…

Every week my mailbox gets filled with press releases and some of them will lead to an article. First selection is to skip press releases from brands that don’t really match here on Monochrome. Second selection is to filter news about watches and news about celebrities, sports events, endorsements and business. A few weeks ago I received a press release that usually wouldn’t immediately inspire me for an article, until I saw some photos popping up on the net…

The press release was from one of the most beautiful watch brands on the market today, Laurent Ferrier. It stated that the first Galet Micro-Rotor models arrived at dealers around the world. Because I’ve already explained the functioning of Laurent Ferrier’s Galet Micro-Rotor, I usually wouldn’t share this news with you. No bad intentions, just a matter of being selective with what’s news and what’s not… plus trying to use my own time as effective as possible.

The reason why I choose to share this news with you now, that within a day after the forementioned press release, I saw photos popping up on Facebook and forums of people showing their new Galet Micro-Rotor. I found it really cool to see this happening within a day! Let me just congratulate the new owners and wish luck to those who’re still debating which version they have to choose. For those people I suggest they read on…

And this is also a good reason to share other news about Laurent Ferrier. Earlier this year a limited edition Galet Micro-Rotor was introduced. This version with a platinum case and a grand-feu white enamel dial is limited to just 18 pieces. A stunningly beautiful version of the Galet Micro-Rotor! (see photos above)

Other news is that after the Galet Classic Double Spiral, also the Galet Micro-Rotor will be tested at the Besançon Observatory. The watches will be tested according to the ISO3159 specifications, specifying 16 days of continuous testing in 5 positions and at 3 different temperatures.

By the way, the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral was recently tested as the most precise chronometer ever certified by the Besançon Observatory since 2006. The tourbillon double spiral movement FBN 916.01 showed an average daily variation of just 1,29 second! (the official benchmark being a variance between -4 and +6 seconds)

Last but not least, Laurent Ferrier also created a watch to celebrate the Chinese year of the dragon. The dragon painted on an ivory-colored enamel dial, will only be shown upon pushing the pusher in the crown. Galet Secret Tourbillon Double Spiral Dragon is a pièce unique.

Seeing photos of the new owners and people who were having a hard time deciding which Galet Micro-Rotor to choose, caused me to write about not only this fact, but also the platinum limited edition Galet Micro-Rotor, the unique Galet Secret Tourbillon Double Spiral Dragon and the testing at the Besançon Observatory. And I must admit that I sometimes wrongly delete a message. I’ll pay more attention from now one 🙂
