Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Seconde/Seconde/ (Live Pics & Price)
An ode to the dreaded "HTTP 404 ERROR" code we've all encountered at some point.
The “404” error code is a standard response code in computer network communications indicating a failure to connect to a server. Alternatively, it can also mean a server works fine but doesn’t want to communicate. A third possibility is attempting to follow a broken or dead link. In any case, the result is you not getting shown what you want to see. We’ve all experienced it… But what does this have to do with watchmaking? Not much, really, but that hasn’t stopped Louis Erard teaming up with seconde/seconde/ for a fun limited edition revolving around the “Page Not Found” message. This is the Le Régulateur Louis Erard x seconde/seconde/. Or the “Louis Error” if you want to give it a funnier name.
This new Louis Erard creation follows in a long line of limited editions, mostly selling out in record time. The combination of fun and creative watches at a relatively affordable price has been a hit for the brand. Collaborations with creative art studios like atelier oï or industry icons like Alain Silberstein, Vianney Halter and Eric Giroud all use the Le Régulateur Excellence as a starting point.
Dealing with the basic dial specifications, you will notice that nothing has changed from the outside. It still comes in a fully polished stainless steel case with a domed sapphire crystal on top and a see-through caseback. With its 42mm diameter, 12.25mm height and lug-to-lug size of 49.60mm, it wears on the larger side.
Collaborating with seconde/seconde/, the atelier known for creative replacement hands for all sorts of watches, resulted in a unique display for this Le Régulateur adaptation. With regular 12-hour and 60-second sub-dials at 12 and 6 o’clock, seconde/seconde/ has applied its signature playful style to the all-important minute display.
A blue plaque with “ERROR” printed in white is placed over the “Erard” section of the brand’s logo at 3 o’clock. The elongated, bar-like minute hand is cut at an angle and has “404” transcribed on one end. Once every hour, the two align to reveal the “404 ERROR” message referred to in the intro. The remainder of the dial is left untouched compared to the standard model of the Le Régulateur.
Power comes from the well-known Sellita SW 266-1 automatic movement used in the other Le Régulateur models. This movement runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and provides 38 hours of power reserve. It is topped with a custom rotor and revealed through the sapphire crystal caseback.
The Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Seconde/Seconde/ is worn on a chocolate brown nubuck strap with matching stitching. It is secured to the wrist with a steel pin buckle. It is presented as a limited edition of 178 pieces for CHF 2,404 as a final nod to the concept. Surprisingly, this is slightly lower than the standard Le Régulateur Excellence by Louis Erard.
