Linde Wederlin has just released two new versions of the Oktopus II with a Moon Phase indication. The Oktopus II Moon Black and the Oktopus II Moon Gold are the successors of the first Oktopus Moonphase that was introduced in 2010

The Oktopus II Moon features a photo realistic moon that rotates above a layer with SuperLuminova, so the moon phase is visible during the darker hours of the day and looks like we see the moon during a clear night.

Early 2012 we already showed you the Linde Werdelin Oktopus II Double Date, that features a large double date (check the Oktopus II Double Date here). The moon phase of Linde Werdelin’s Oktopus II Moon makes a full rotation in 29,5 day. This does not make it the most accurate moon phase indication, but it does look very good. The full moon is always indicated with a white mark visible through the lower dial. Numerals 11, 10, 9, displayed between 1 and 2 o’clock allow a more precise track of the lunar cycle.

The black and gold version together will be limited to 59 numbered pieces; 12 pieces of the Oktopus II Moon Gold and 47 pieces of the Oktopus II Moon Black. The latter comes in a full DLC titanium case with a ceramic bezel and striking blue detailing on the dial. The gold version comes in a rose gold and titanium DLC case with ceramic bezel.

The dial consists of three skeletonised layers, giving the dial a very nice depth. At the 6 o’clock position lays the moon disk that rotates clockwise. A photo-realistic moon was silk-printed and moves over a SuperLuminova; the nightly sky appears blue on the Oktopus II Moon Black and brown on the Oktopus II Moon Gold. The second skeletonised layer or lower dial bears a circular Côtes de Genève while the upper and third part is skeletonised and features the brand’s logo, indexes and hour markers at 3, 9 and 12 o’clock. The hour markers and hands are also treated with luminous material, to enhance readability.

We know the case from the Oktopus II and it is also a five-part case construction sealing a titanium inner cylinder that protects the movement and the dial inside from water ingress and its anti-corrosive materials. The movement is sealed in the chamber by a titanium DLC screw in back-case featuring the iconic octopus. There’s no mention of the movement inside, however it’s not the same Frederic Piguet caliber that was used for the first Oktopus Moonphase.

The Oktopus II Moon Gold comes at a price of CHF 27,000 (ex VAT) and the Oktopus II Moon Black retails for CHF 12,500 (ex VAT). Both models will be available from February 2013. For more information you can visit the Linde Werdelin website.
