Louis Moinet Spirit of Jules Verne (Live Pics & Pricing)
A journey into a universe of steampunk and vintage sci-fi.
In the light of the current situation and the cancellation of Baselworld 2020, Louis Moinet organized a digital presentation of its historical and creative values from its Saint-Blaise facility near Neuchatel. As a neighbour, I paid Jean-Marie Schaller (the brand CEO and creative director) and his team a visit. This was the opportunity to discover a unique piece named “Spirit of Jules Verne”. Certainly a bold statement, but also a watch with impressive execution.
This unique piece is not the first Louis Moinet paying tribute to the French writer. The design of this monopusher chronograph is based on the Louis Moinet Jules Verne Instrument III. However, the dial is the clear focal point here. The imaginary universe of the novelist is recreated with an artistic miniature painting. Scenes from the Voyages Extraordinaires are depicted on this miniature canvas with several applied elements creating a sense of depth. In addition to the scenery, Louis Moinet has used an original and sophisticated technique by incorporating Super-LumiNova in the paint to create a surprising perspective in the dark.
The Louis Moinet Spirit of Jules Verne is presented in grade 5 titanium and pink gold (some parts of the bezel, the crown and the pusher). The 46mm case is fitted with the brand’s six screw bezel. To enhance grip, the pusher has been engraved with a chequered motif. The water-resistance is rated at 50m.
The exhibition caseback is secured by seven screws and offers an interesting view of the automatic calibre LM30. This monopusher chronograph is manufactured with Concepto. This original movement shows evident similarities with the cam-and-lever 7750. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it boasts 48 hours of power reserve. The rotor is openworked and incorporates the Louis Moinet Fleur de Lys. Besides the hours, minutes and small seconds, it displays a central chronograph second hands and a 30-minute chronograph register. The date indicator is used to represent characters running. Last, the original start/stop/reset indicator is inspired by a Chadburn telegraph transmitter.
The Louis Moinet Spirit of Jules Verne is worn on a dark gradient blue alligator leather strap with alligator lining and blue stitching. It is secured with a folding buckle emblazoned with the brand’s Fleur de Lys logo. A quick-release spring bar system allows you to change the watch band easily. Price for this unique piece is set at CHF 29,000. For more information, please visit www.louismoinet.com.
