Launched a couple of years ago, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon is a modern revival of the Calypso, one of the brand’s 1990s timepieces – for more information about this collection, you can watch our in-depth video here. The watch is an attractive, modern package with competitive pricing, an affordable alternative to the high-end luxury sports watch. Over the past months, the Aikon has been presented in different versions and, on the occasion of the Geneva Watch Week, Maurice Lacroix unveils an all-black version of the Aikon automatic.

stealth meets sleek

With the new Aikon automatic black, Maurice Lacroix is taking the Aikon into a modern, more aggressive direction. The model is a sleek black-on-black dial and case combo. Perfect if you are a fan of the Aikon but want to convey a little more attitude. The case is fashioned out of PVD steel. It features a matte brushed finish except for the distinctive claws surrounding the bezel (inspired by the Calypso).

Being 42mm in diameter and 11mm thick, it is a versatile size that will wear comfortably on most wrists. The dial is embossed with a Clous de Paris pattern, with a black sun-brushed finish that creates great light reflections. It is paired with baton-style hour markers and thin hands that are nicely facetted (and coated with luminescent material to ensure readability in the dark).

Tried-And-Tested Automatic Calibre

The Maurice Lacroix Aikon is an automatic three-hander powered by the ML115 calibre based on the reliable and ubiquitous Sellita SW-200. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with 38 hours of power reserve, it displays the hours, minutes, seconds and date. The ML115 can be seen through the exhibition caseback and its decoration combines Geneva stripes and perlage.

INTERCHANGEABLE STRAP

The Aikon Black is worn on a black technical fabric strap integrated into the case and secured with a steel folding buckle. The Maurice Lacroix logo on the strap is also black to match the case.

Another cool feature of the Aikon collection is the interchangeable strap system. One of the easiest on the market, the mechanism allows you to change your strap and the personality of your watch in seconds – with no tool required.

The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic black retails for CHF 1,850. As with all Aikon watches, you are getting an excellent watch for the money. Definitely an option to consider if you are looking for an affordable, elegant and versatile black-on-black sports watch. More details on www.mauricelacroix.com.
