The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Sprint (Live Pics)
Updated materials and colours give the chrono a bold, new character.
Maurice Lacroix has just updated its Aikon Automatic Chronograph line with new case and dial colours, and although the core design remains unchanged, the personality is different. We’ve seen a recent variant of the Aikon Chronograph in titanium, and the brand has also embraced bronze for models like the Aikon Venturer Bronze 43mm Anthracite. This latest model adds a DLC coating to the stainless steel case for the first time. Couple that with new dial colours, and Maurice Lacroix has a fresh model for Aikon Automatic Chronograph fans.
The stainless steel case is still 44mm in diameter but now wears a matte black DLC coating for a positively stealthy vibe. The classic six arms on the bezel with polished double plates now have a gunmetal finish, contrasting with the case while maintaining the dark tone. This look can be traced back to the Calypso collection from the 1990s. The number six is an ongoing theme as the chronograph pushers are within hexagonal bases, while the knurling on the crown complements the overall design language. The sapphire crystal is flat with an anti-reflective coating, while the exhibition caseback is also sapphire with the black DLC edge. Water-resistance is 200 metres, allowing for recreational diving as well.
The dial continues the dark theme with a splash of light blue for contrast. The base has a sunray-brushed finish in gunmetal grey with an embossed square pattern, while the faceted hour and minute hands and gunmetal grey indices have Super-LumiNova. The 30-minute and 12-hour counters at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively are black with a snailed pattern, but the small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock is light blue. The central chronograph seconds hand is light blue and combined with the small seconds, bring a light tie to this otherwise dark suit. A day/date complication in separate windows sits at 3 o’clock. An integrated, light blue FKM rubber strap with a black DLC pin buckle completes the two-tone aesthetic.
Beating inside is the calibre ML112, based on the Sellita SW500. It has 25 jewels, beats at 28,800vph (4Hz) with a 48-hour power reserve. Functions include central hours, minutes and chronograph seconds with small seconds at 9 o’clock, twin chronograph counters and day/date complication at 3 o’clock. Decorations include circular graining and Côtes de Genève.
The exact price of the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Sprint remains to be confirmed but is expected around EUR 3,000. For more information, please visit mauricelacroix.com.
