The Maurice Lacroix Pontos collection debuted in 2000 and several new watches are launching to commemorate the 20th anniversary. The Pontos Chronograph Monopusher brings a vintage-inspired aesthetic while simultaneously being contemporary in many aspects. Modern touches like a large case diameter and black PVD coating combine with a traditional dial sporting a telemeter and tachymeter for fans of both old and new. The monopusher design harkens back to 19th-century stopwatch-style and chronograph pocket watches, completing the retro-modern theme.

The case is 41mm in diameter and 14mm in height, a positively contemporary size and right in the sweet spot for a modern chronograph. It’s made of 316L stainless steel with a black PVD coating, adding a stealthy vibe. The slightly oversized signed crown features a spiral knurling that’s a signature element of the brand. The single chronograph pusher sits at 2 o’clock to start, stop and reset the counters. The case has a combination of satin and polished elements, and an exhibition caseback displays the decorated automatic movement. The watch comes fitted with a black calf leather strap with a black PVD-coated steel butterfly clasp. Water-resistance is 100 metres.

The gradient sunbrushed dial starts with black at the edge and transitions to a medium grey in the centre. The two sub-dials have a snailed pattern with the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock. Both the hands and applied indices are rhodium plated with white Super-LumiNova, while the chronograph seconds hand has blue and red marks for the two central scales – an outer tachymeter in blue and telemeter in red. A framed date window sits at 6 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the ML166 automatic monopusher chronograph calibre (Sellita SW-500 base, modified to feature a single pusher). It has 23 jewels, beats at 28,800vph (4Hz) with a 58-hour power reserve. Functions include central hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock and date at 6 o’clock. Decorations include Côtes de Genève on the rotor and perlage.

The Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronograph Monopusher is limited to 500 watches for the Pontos 20th anniversary. It will be priced at EUR 3,890. For more information, visit the Maurice Lacroix website.
